A couple of things I learned from our sorely missed former forumite are...
If you buy coins off eBay and never return one you'll soon have a pretty sorry coin collection
(this is pretty obvious but, remember, newbies need coaching)don't feed the trolls

Having a good coin image/picture is important when selling,to get the highest price possible . Helped me improve my picture skills,no matter what camera I use..
Even though I don't collect Kennedy Halves, I learned about his passion for them. He had a great fondness for the Proof 1964 Kennedys. He also had an incredible sense of humor. He made me laugh out loud at my computer on more than several occasions!
Later, Paul.
I learned that Accented Hair JFKs exist.
I also know that he gave me some camera tips when I was first starting out. My first digital camera was the newer version of the one he was using, so he had advice on photos in general and the camera specifically.
Beyond specific bits of information, he always treated people with respect (unless they went out of their way to not deserve it) and was helpful when a question was asked of him in an area where he had knowledge. He was simply a good example for how to be a good person.
The value of brevity.

He was the expert on birthmark Kennedys - he called them dotheads

You don't have to spend a lot of money to have great fun with coins.
I learned many things from Russ. I was fortunate to go to many coin shows with him. He had an incredible sense of humor and awesome sarcasm. We used to compete at shows finding AH Kennedy's in mint envelopes. I always chuckled at his greeting to new forum members ....."Fresh meat." Cheers, RickO
I remember when Russ had to modify (tone down) his icon emoji so it wasn't so flipping offensive...seemed he liked to live on the 'edge' and I learned that wasn't so bad after all.

Russ showed me grace , when I was like a bull in a China shop.
That there existed for a brief period in time a truly honest guy who would do WAY more work than it cost to perform a terrific service for ....easily..... selling stuff on eBay.
I miss him a LOT.
Post something you learned from Russ
1.) if you expect to last here long term you'd better have thin skin.
2.) people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
While this statement is true (that you should return NAD coins) it is extremely misleading.
I have bought tens of thousands of coins off of eBay, and many of them years ago as a newbie.
I have returned 3 or 4 coins out of those 40 thousand some coins. If I did not return those coins, I would still have an awesome collection.
What die polish lines are and that I have so much more to learn
I'd been a coin collector for 25+ years when I started collecting items donated here on the old CU forums for a charity eBay auction. One of the items was a really pretty MS68 PCGS Ike, IIRC. Except it had these scratches all over the surface radiating from the bust. And I didn't want to sell something that was damaged. So I texted him his thoughts.
He didn't call me an idiot. He didn't laugh at me. He didn't just delete my message. He just told me they were "die polish" lines and what they meant.
Realized I had a lot to learn still about our hobby.
He also taught me the value of brevity when it comes to selling a coin. A lesson I'm still struggling with

Make sure my friends send razorface1027 an email.
I had never heard of AH Kennedy halves before Russ post. The diagnostics and all the information Russ had put forth was amazing.
This guy must've been a blast. So many of you love him and respect him and honor him.
Seeing so many people I respect deeply honor him in his passing.. it is astonishing.
That one is selling their self short by submitting cameo proofs w/o dipping them first!
Russ could always make folks laugh. Always fun. I remember when he was teaching us how to spot a 64 AH from even the worst Ebay pictures.
