Arrest made in Super Bowl burglary of New England Patriots Rob Gronkowski's house
Police in Massachusetts have arrested a man in connection with a burglary at New England Patriots player Rob Gronkowski's home while he was at the Super Bowl. Foxborough police say 31-year-old Anthony Almeida was charged Friday with breaking and entering, receiving stolen property and malicious destruction of property after his home in Randolph was searched.
Police say they have recovered some of the items that were stolen, but they have not found the guns owned by Gronkowski's roommate, CBS Boston reports. The items that have been recovered include an Apple Watch, a Rolex Watch and two rare coins from the 1800's.
Reportedly two US silver dollars were stolen, 1879 PCGS Proof Morgan and 1896 PCGS Proof Morgan.

How do you know they were silver dollars? What were they??
It's excellent that an arrest was made.
Why does Gronk have a roommate?
@CascadeChris they were two Morgans. I think proofs perhaps

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......

MJ, think Entourage.
As for the proof Morgans, glad they caught the guy. I am trying to picture Gronk at a coin show.

Maybe the Morgans were the roommates, one Morgan for each!

Glad to hear some property has been recovered. I would really like to know what led the police to the thieves (two not yet apprehended). I am always interested in these details....Cheers, RickO
maybe he left some fingerprints behind, or tried to sell some of the stolen property
It's usually the person trying to sell the stolen property.

In other words, a butler.

The silver dollars led to the arrest.
"Within 30 minutes of sending out the alert I received a call from PNG dealer Dave Pepe, owner of Pilgrim Coin & Currency of Weymouth, Massachusetts, who advised he had the coins and the identity of the person who sold them," Davis said.

Awesome! And congratulations to that coin dealer. I often wondered who ends up out of pocket if the thieves don't pay. I assume it is the coin dealer.

How the arrest came about.
"Keep your malarkey filter in good operating order" -Walter Breen
It is.
I bought a deal, many years ago. The deal smelled. I called the police, thought I could be a hero.
Two detectives came flying into my store. "We'll take that stuff",they told me......"BS you will", I said, "Unless you come back with a warrant".....It was only a 9 hundred dollar deal, but at the time it was a lot for me. I went and hired an attorney. "Is this stuff unusual in some way" my attorney asks me. "No, not particularly, I answer, just stuff...." "Could you put together an identical bag of coins, so when we get to court, the owner couldn't positively identify 'his' bag ?" "Yes"........So I made up an identical bag. We get to court, the perp, the elderly mans son, fesses up. The owner no longer needs to identify. I cough up the bag and I'm out the money. Lesson learned. Don't be a hero !! (but really, when in doubt, kick them out). Over the years, I kicked out a hundred potential sellers ! Probably much more......
This is a good story and I hope the same would turn out for our friend @justcommeman
Stock is at $ 17 after tumbling to $15, from $30, ... most recently.
Safety in numbers.
If PCGS was looking for a new way to promote their brand ( @DonWillis ), especially to the younger crowd, they should think about leveraging Gronk's happy ending to this story.
This would be a good way to promote their brand, holders and the overall coin hobby. Bringing Gronk to a show or asking him to tweet a picture of the returned PCGS coins and a little message would probably attract younger people to the hobby as Gronk is one of the most popular and exciting players in the NFL.
I don't know if Doug Davis is a member here but I think we all should send him a big Thumbs Up for what he does.

The "Gronk" has recently purchased a minority interest in the racehorse "Gronkowski". He will be running in the Kentucky Derby this year. The horse has won 4 of 6 races. Maybe the "Gronks" luck will continue with a win in the race.
Yay, one for the good guys !!!
Being that it was Gronk, I'm surprised the two coins didn't have 69 in their dates.
I do believe that's his favourite number.
I read last night that another arrest was made in this case, but one of the lines in the article changed the complexion of this story:
Authorities earlier recovered an Apple watch, a Rolex watch and rare coins allegedly stolen from one of Gronkowski's roommates.
I guess Gronk is not a collector afterall.

A third man has been arrested for the burglary of New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski‘s house during Super Bowl week.
According to the Associated Press, Shane Denn, 26, was arrested in Maine by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
Eric Tyrrell and Anthony Almeida had already been arrested and pleaded not guilty to charges relating to the break-in. Foxborough Police Chief William Baker said authorities will seek to have Denn extradited back to Massachusetts.
Gronkowski alerted authorities to the burglary upon returning home from the Super Bowl in Minneapolis. The break-in is alleged to have happened while Gronkowski was playing in the game.

Cool idea!
We did release this article to the general press: https://www.pcgs.com/News/pcgs-security-features-help-gronkowski
See above. The coins did not belong to Gronkowski - they were his roommate's.
