Is this the 1969-S DDO MS63RD that @homerunhall spoke about here that was recently graded?
Later, Paul.

Here's the TrueView for the 1955 DDO. The 1969-S doesn't have a Cert Verification photo.
Two thoroughbreds neck and neck at the wire.
I personally was not a fan of the 55 DDO. You certainly do not see MS65's offered
was thinking, you take out two bidders, the 58 DDO was $150G hammer and the 69 DD was $85G hammer. Where were all the 1C collectors?
I figured the 69S for an easy $125G hammer. These go for $30G in AU58. Seems this coin sold cheap
Stunning example.
A big night for some big coins. But I couldn't help but notice with all the big varieties in the ESM set, where is the 1970-s ddo?

Amazing.... and to think I had three of those '55's years ago.... all disappeared when I joined the Navy. Of course, they were not valuable like that in 1959. Cheers, RickO
The Big winners last night were ESM and Stacks
ESM more than doubled his money on the 55/55 and the 58 DDO
The only coins he lost money on were the 09 s s/s horiz. And the 71 DDO
The 1955 DDO was hands down the finest example. The consignor did very well. The 1958 was a coin most had never even seen prior to this sale. Everyone was awestruck by it. The consignor also did well, as he had to pay a very high price ($200K) to get it. There was nothing besides a gut instinct to base that purchase off of. He’s glad now he pulled the trigger. The 1969-S was another gut-check purchase, but the auction didn’t reward him as well. He should be happy and can cost-average these coins and come out OK.
This image is very flattering...
It's a very rare grade indeed! Unfortunately it looked RB to me...there's a 64+ Red on the market that looks exactly like this coin, maybe a bit nicer, but the dealer hasn't gotten the grade of 65 on it yet...
The money made on these three more than made up for his losses on the other coins, and the devaluation of middle date 67's. I would bet he netted more than he spent all in all, but that is just a WAG on my part. I haven't done any research on it, but as far as I know that is the first 55 DDO to break six figures. I think there might have been several auction records set on a few coins, although I haven't checked.
The takeaway for me is to spend what you have to for the true rarities.
No doubt coins like this will cost a lot of money now-a-days.
I am not surprised with the results of the 1969-S DDO.
I am very eccentric with the result of the 1955 Doubled Die Obverse. This is the kinda result we need in numismatics. It is somewhat a common coin, in an uncommon grade.
And to boot for it, it is very eye appealing.
The TV photo of the 55 DDO cent is very nice. If the color of the coin in hand is as the color is shown in the TV photo, I would fall in love with the coin. The deep orange color, plus strong luster makes for fantastic eye appeal. If this coin did not have the spotting on it I would presume a TPG would grade it higher than 65+. The coin, as shown in the TV photo, is very clean and relatively free of distracting marks.
Congrats to the new owner.
The 55 DDO is NOT the finest one. It had a fingerprint, a cut (above the eye), and a few flecks. Years ago, Jay Parrino sold a monster PCGS MS65 for $25,000.00-at a time when the coin should have been $10,000.00. I should know, I bought it. This coin was no where close to that one. No sour grapes, just facts.
Further, take the 2 bidders out of the race, and the 58 and 69S did not have much activity at all. I thought the 69S sold kind of cheap since AU58's are about $30,000.00.
I found a 95/95 in change that is bright and brilliant. Can't wait till it's worth it.
Specialist, what did you do with the 55DDO you bought?
placed it with a collector-where it still is today
Have a pic saved for posterity you can post?
+1 I'd love to see a pic.
Anyone??
