Only the 3rd known Franky in a PCGS sample slab!

Is there something about this one specifically? Or are all OGH samplers getting big bucks? I think I have a couple P$ samples laying around somewhere.

Only 3 Franklin half PCGS samples known, all 3 different generations.

The only unique type coin now is a Merc. dime in a very odd PCGS sample.

I think the sample with no coin and a 1933 $20 Gold Label (If I recall the sample correctly) would bring a lot more, no? If in a 30 day auction or something like that?

@Lakesammman The 1933 $20 is a bigger coin than the Franklin Half. ;)
I'm not in the game but still believe that sample would go for more. Meh, what do I know? lol

It looks like the gasket for the $20 is the same side as the dime's.

So much for all of those that preach buy the coin and not the holder........

But maybe the holders need to be graded as well for scratches and hairlines, and they should not be cleaned or messed with in any possible way either.

Interesting - someone just let me know the seller listed a second one for a BIN of $1250!

Interesting sales strategy - now that's no longer one of a kind, raise the price! :D

Last year I was offered a group of samples and was asked to make an offer - the lot included a rattler Franky sample - there was a very pregnant pause when he heard my offer. He thought the offer was crazy so threw in a few more pieces in the deal. :D

I know the owner of the 1933 $20 sample slab. He's a member on the Forums.

You said there were only 3 Franklins in sample slabs. Is that only for OGH sample slabs?

China now finds it profitable and worthwhile to counterfeit sample slabs.......since no one cares much about the coin inside....

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

    Don't think I haven't thought of that!

Ilikemonsters - only 4 Franklin PCGS samples that I know of, other than the made for profit ones peddled by Fast Coin. Do you know of others?

You need to bookmark the PCGS Sample threads and check them now and then. :D
So far 4 known, 3 different styles, unless ilikemonsters can point out more.
The third picture below was auctioned off in 2004 for $265, a sample record at the time, according to SS.com
The 1st and 3rd are unique, 2 known of the middle one.

  • LakesammmanLakesammman Posts: 17,402 ✭✭✭✭✭

Kennedy is very common, Franklins very rare.

I find it hard to believe someone would pay $1250 after finding out it's not a unique sample and the prior brought $1009.....will have to check watchcount in a day or 2.

Do you have 1st hand knowledge of what it sold for?
