Hi Everyone,
After looking at the thread 1919 double die mercury dime, I looked over my 1919 coins, and found what seems to be a double die WLH in about AG/G. I checked coinfacts and didn't discover anything, so I have two main questions:
Is this an actual double die variety?
What would something like this be worth?
Would appreciate any help.
Thanks

Not a doubled die- it's a textbook example of machine doubling. Look at the bottom right of each 'L' in dollar, where it turns up and forms a point. A doubled die with that rotation would show 2 distinct points (this is called notching). Instead, because it is machine doubling, you get a shadow effect.
cmelo1, very good explanation about dbl-die and machine doubling. i have been wondering about the difference between the two for awhile now...thanks.. rln
