Two coin rolls appear in an American film along with a wrapped bundle of prop paper money.

The paper money appears to be the common film prop copies of Mexican Revolution notes, usually 7" x 3" or 18cm x 8cm.

The left roll is marked "$20" and appears to be a roll of 40 half-dollars.
The larger right roll might be a roll of silver dollars.

Other non-standard rolls I have seen are 25 cent rolls, $1 nickel rolls and $5 quarter rolls. The half dollars were the only coin where a double roll would be practical. Any other denomination would be too long. That said, a $40 dollar roll might be possible but I have never seen one.

It might be a west coast peculiarity, but half dollars rolls were always $20 when I was a kid (in the 60's and 70's). I don't know exactly when the California banks switched to $10 rolls.

The roll on the left is a double roll of half dollars, or $20 face. Bought in a few in old time collections.

Funny, because @carabonnair noted, growing up in California the half-dollar rolls were all $20 face, which made sense since a quarter roll was $10 face and a dime roll was $5 face. So, when $10 half-dollar rolls started showing up, I thought of them as half-rolls (pun intended).

With regard to the paper money, here is some that I acquired that was used as a prop in the TV Series LOST.

Note, the bills under the face one are blanks which is typical for stacked prop paper money used in films and TV.

    I think it's a roll of Omega $20s.

I have never seen coin rolls in movies... of course, I have not been to a theater since 1992....and rarely watch any on TV... Guess I am not a movie authority... :D:D Cheers, RickO

A coin roll in another film:

The 1946 film "The Dark Corner" is a hard-boiled crime film about a detective, Mark Stevens, who gets involved in the activities of a wealthy art dealer. His office manager and assistant is Lucille Ball.

Early in the picture, Mark finds that thug William Bendix is following him, and, in his office, confronts William.

Mark tells William to empty his pockets.

    Mark: "All right, shell out"

William puts his goods onto a table, among the items is a two dollar roll of nickels.

Roll of nickels on table, the label reads "$2 / 5c NICKELS"

Mark: "Make nice brass knuckles, don't they?"

William: "Brass knucks ain't legal - I just carry my change the hard way".
