Old Fort Coin Club show in Fort Wayne. It sucked. Just a bunch of junk. Raw junkers and a bunch of boring white silver. Way to much silver and gold bullion. I did happen to find one coin. A nice original PCGS MS65 Vermont commem. Lots of empty tables too. Strange though, I bet I didn’t see a dozen CAC stickers in the floor. All in all a bad show and I should have stayed home.

Well you DID score a newp, so it wasn’t a waste of time.
Now I am depressed.
There are a couple of small local shows in my area and my experience is quite similar to yours. I see the same dealers selling raw coins and 2nd tier holders. I can probably count on my fingers the number of CAC coins I see. And gold bullion or slabbed common $20’s are way overpriced. And this is Southern California.
Consider the experience as adding to your perspective in connection with the frequency that decent coins appear. Sometimes a smaller show can yield something special because a coin can easily be overlooked
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
I don't even bother going to shows anymore. Only shows I am still sort of interested are model railroading shows.
I hadn't been to a local show in years, so I went to one in February. Same tired stuff you saw, lots of bullion. 80 tables I think. Just to be sure I looked at everything, I did a search for green beans. I counted carefully & found (9) CAC stickers total. Just not worth the trip.

Now listen boy, I'm tryin' to teach you sumthin' . . . . that ain't an optical illusion, it only looks like an optical illusion.
My mind reader refuses to charge me....
C'mon guys, local shows CAN be fun. You just have to try and find that 1 coin hiding in the haystack.
Later, Paul.
Are you guys measuring coins shows by the number of stickers you see! If so.....that is pitiful!
I go to 3 local shows a year......and love every minute of them.
I collect coins not slabs or stickers. That said I won't attend ANY show that attempts to charge an admission fee.
The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.

You 'found' one coin, that you wanted and bought.
But ......." Old Fort Coin Club show in Fort Wayne. It sucked. Just a bunch of junk"
You would get bored pretty quickly metal detecting.

Somewhere in that room was the best deal....you just have to find it.
No admission fee and I definitely don't judge a show by its CAC stickers. I was just something I noticed. It was a bad show. Period.
For those of you that are as old as I am how did we ever buy a coin in the 60s, 70s or 80s before third party grading and way before CAC? We all must have a bunch of dreck in our collections.
it's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide
I need to stop speed reading since "Old Fart Coin club show" didn't sound right.
If you got one good coin then in my book you had a successful day. That's better than I do most of the time but it is still nice to see what's there. You never know what you might find.

I've gone to some local shows that have had very scant offerings but I still enjoy attending. When I go to shows like that I look less for nice walkers and more for nice type set coins such as Morgans, Franklins or Barbers. I always try to come away with at least one nice coin, even if it's not a Walker and I always enjoy attending. Sometimes, I'll buy Walker widgets just to add to my hoard.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

I'm looking forward to the day when coin collectors come back to our local show instead of the bullion stackers! We used to have a heck of a local show in Hotlanta!
I've found that these local shows can have the "offbeat" materials--locally-oriented exonumia, bank bags, and other random stuff--that tends to be left at home at the bigger regional shows, when the dealers bring out their best materials and high dollar items.
That isn't to discount your bummer of an experience, as I've been to shows where the only saving grace is shooting the bull with fellow numismatists and friendly dealers. But as I've said before, a "bad" day at a coin show almost always beats the alternative.
We're in the middle of a multiple-show run here in these parts and the quality can vary greatly.
Gonna get me a $50 Octagonal someday. Some. Day.
Must be you know how to grade!
I got to the monthly show at the VFW hall here in Cleveland probably at least 8 times a year. Now I am taking my 6 year old son so he can add to his collection. My son looks for discount bins (he doesnt like the term junk bins), I can always find something interesting, sometimes it is a $5 coin from some odd country that I just find cool.
I pay no attention to CAC coins, couldnt tell you if there was one bean there last month.
To each there own.
Most of my Dime collection was raw before PCGS came to be. Then I sent them in to PCGS so I could put them in the Registry. Even after PCGS came to be I bought raw coins and coins in other holders and then got them in the right holders for my sets. I have never been dependent on PCGS for buying coins.
Ur my Hero!

We could rename most of our local shows "Old Fart Coin Club Show". Seems like the average age is well north of 70. Not that I'm ageist, mind you, but a walker landing on your instep while you're intently inspecting a seller's wares leaves an impression.

I generally learn something everytime
I go to a show which makes it worth it. The majority of shows I don’t buy off the bourse.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Bullion seems like good buy right now especially w the stagnant, sinking bids in many areas on US numismatic coins. World and Currency seem dead. PCGS 63 Dollars (common) can be had for around $50? Buying opportunity!
Shows here not much CAC either. Reason - buyers here (Houston) won’t pay the money especially in this market - Few CAC coins I have sold via online store. Any CAC coin I buy have to mark it up higher bc costs me more.
Many buyers seeking slabbed DE Priced no more than 300 over BV or lower and bulking up on these. Not a bad thing to collect.
I would be extremely thankful for even a small show here... I used to go to the small shows around Seattle when I lived there.... sure, a lot of common stuff and mustard stains... but it was a coin show and always a pleasant couple of hours talking and looking at coins. Have not been to a show in ten years since I retired... well, there are often a coin table or two at the gun shows.... so that helps - I have picked up a couple of AH Kennedy sets at those shows.... and a smattering of overpriced coins in the antique shop here... So, I would be real happy to go to a small show again... Cheers, RickO
The Vermont would have made my day.
Hope to have one at some point.
