I picked an OGH 1926 S PEACE for 1/3 of the cost as oppose to a similar one with Redfield label. ???

I am working on my Peace set and wondered if I've made a wise decision.

That’s not PVC in the left field of the top coin is it? Maybe just the lighting.
In my experience, there is no significant (if any) premium for the "Redfield" name on a label. The Redfield premium comes with the coin still in the original Paramount holder.
Although not a expert in the Peace dollar market, $120 for a 26-S in 63 with marginal eye appeal seems strong (no offense intended). The price for the "Redfield" 26-S is way up there!

Yes. As a Redfield collector, the pedigree on a label does not mean much. In fact, years ago, they were labeling them wrong. Many Paramount only holders were labeled Redfield in 3rd party grading.
There is a lot to like on that coin, but that is a pretty high price for it. The strike looks good to me especially in the hair, but the toning detracts a little from the look for me. I would think you could do better. That being said I have paid on the high end for stuff to fill a hole in my collection as well. If it makes you happy it is a good purchase.
Have you seen page 20 of the latest RCMR magazine?
Collector, occasional seller
But your coin wasn't stored in a basement for decades.......................pity.

LOL. It is not a Redfield coin. See what I mean!
Looks like mild dip residue which just turned gold and brown, but on a coin graded that long ago it's stable.
I think it’s a wise decision indeed. Redfield label does not make much of a difference in the long run. If you are getting to buy a coin at 1/3rd its price, especially in a great condition like this, nothing like it! Hope you complete your set soon!
Based on the photos, the Redfield coin looks nicer, but not three times nicer.
At that level, I would go with a 64, unless that is inconsistent with your objectives.
I do not pay a premium for provenance... to me, I judge the coin and offer/pay accordingly. Usually, I pass on coins with provenance because of the premium. Cheers, RickO
The premium on the Redfield would be too much even for a coin in the Paramount holder. The 50% to 100% mark up over retail for a Redfield is for coins in the original Paramount holders labelled as "Redfield". I happen to have a '26S Peace Dollar in an NGC MS63 holder that I paid full retail for, no premium at all. If your putting a set of Peace dollars together, I wouldn't worry about the Redfield provenance, it would just drive up the price of your set.
