A super awesome major error coin that I could not buy because of "details"

I just can not buy a damaged coin no matter how nice it is.

lol I just bid on it but missed .... glad
With all due respect, for 29 bucks it would have been nice to have no matter what. The error is where the action is, it seems to me. What if they had carried it as a picket piece and it wore down to VF and straight graded, would it have been more desirable?
Well ya, I did change my mind and bid on it in the last seconds.
But, the scratches are so horrible I could never get over them and would have flipped the coin.
On that topic I don't disagree. I'd it bothers you from the start then you will probably never get over it. For me, it would be a constant reminder of "what if" or "why the heck did someone do that".
I would not have minded owning that coin at that price. The problem with getting hung up on a details grade on an unusual error like that is you could be waiting forever for a similar item to show up.

Well, it is a super nice error, had it not been damaged I would have bid well over 100 bucks.
A few hours in a vibratory cartridge cleaner with corn cob or walnut media would have erased that graffiti...

29 bucks ,,,, a spec flyer
Details graded with no details mentioned is meaningless.
Shame it wasn't a proof, but as a clad business strike it's no great loss.
That's funny, I was looking for a plain old details graded quarter but I refused to buy it because of the big defect on his head.
Don't you flip most of them anyway?
after looking at the reverse, I wonder if ANACS screwed the pooch and it is post mint damage (especially considering all the scrapes on the obverse)- but I guess for $30 it is definitely a curiosity piece

I would only be bothered if I couldn't sell it.
It's a genuine error planchet.
Yes I do, But If you look at my inventory, You will see that I do not sell damaged, detailed or cleaned coins.
I only sell coins with awesome eye appeal.
I think you are being too harsh on this coin. It is a fine example of a major planchet error. And, it has scratches.
Unfortunately, in this era of modern plastic, where a Proof-68 is sometimes considered trash, people look down on anything less than perfect. It is what it is, and we should accept it for what it is.
