How can you tell they are platinum rather than some other white metal without first testing each chip?
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Not only would the element be questioned, but where did you find such pieces?? Cheers, RickO
Your best bet is to send them to a refiner.

A quick check of the S.G. [21.4 + -] would determine a lot

Looks a lot like lead. What kind of torch did you use?
Remember, Platinum melts at 3,215°F. What kind of torch is this?

@asheland
I was hoping he wouldn't know that and answer MAPP or Butane.
To melt Pt with a Oxy Acetylene torch is a hard thing to do in quantity. Anything more than 2 ounces and your asking for trouble. That chunk he's holding looks way more than a few ounces. 10 ounces of Pt is 1 inch cubed, so that must me at least that. Making it nearly impossible to have all the Pt in liquid form with a torch. I have an induction furnace specifically set up for Pt melting and assaying and that takes nearly half an hour to get 4-5 ounces to a liquid state. Not only is keeping it at temp difficult, it will be so bright white and emitting so much heat you need special equipment just to be near it.
I love this place.
I knew it would happen.
What does that even mean?
Weighing is not testing.
I think you are still “unknowing” as to what you have.
You state you didn’t know what you had BUT you know it isn’t lead?
Yeah I love this place too!
My grandfather used to pour lead toy soldiers.
I knew it would happen.
I've always wanted to try that. Well with silver instead of lead. Once painted no one would know.
Few years ago didn't some company do exactly that, silver toy soldiers??
I have a friend that swears he has some palladium figurines he bought years ago when it wasn’t so expensive somewhere. I’d be curious to see them.
easy way to test if its lead , sprinkle the powder on your food every day for a month. If you can still remember your name after 30 days it is not lead.
so we started with so called "chips" that look like small practice plates for engraving. Then we see a beaded pile of something that reminds me of those cake decorative beads. Now we are back to some strange looking shape of pressed
something another with no sulfur marks just straight sparkle.
Is this a game. Are we making toy solders? Sorry I am a little lost been off the forum for a few weeks.
Best place to buy !

@bronco2078 I can't find the clapping emoji but if I could you would be getting it.
Don't they use platinum in catalytic converters to get rid of the stink? I smell a lot of stink, here.

If it's lead you can mark it with your fingernail. Try that.
Lead.
Can see some of your weed flakes in the grooves of your scale.
Nice lead, you making bullets?
The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.

May be time to put this one to rest.
