Buying the coin no the label. Merc Dime Toner!

Jinx86Jinx86 Posts: 3,710 ✭✭✭✭✭

Picked this up mid last year, gambling the color was stunning in hand as it was in the images. Cracked it and submitted raw. I've had the TV's for awhile now but just realized I had taken images of it in the old holder. How prone are coins to tone in these PCI holders? was it the paper or foam gasket?

I can't answer your questions but that sure is a pretty Merc!

Those PCI greens sometimes yield nice upgrades.
Some coins were quite conservatively graded.
    Nice upgrade.

They are very prone to tone in the green holders, I have quite a few.

I've seen them tone in the red label holders, also. The greenies do tone very nicely. There's a couple on eBay right now but with outrageous price tags. One is a electric/blueberry blue.

The issue, though (with my and other's experience), is that it's a crap shoot as to whether they will grade out EVEN IF you send it to the TPG in the PCI holder!

Can be a gamble worth taking.

Are you nuts? Nobody buys the coin anymore, that's so 1900's. These days it's all about buying labels and stickers to confirm the labels lol ;)

The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.

The coin was 95% white when it went into that holder. Very prone is the answer!

I like it. I was thinking MS65FB while scrolling downm and saw the 64FB grade.I am staying with my 65FB guessm then check what out host has to say. Really nice Mercury

I just looked up the certificate and see that our host went 66FB. I don't disagree with that grade. One nice Mercury. Thanks for posting it, Jinx88. I like playing the guess the grade.

Very nice, toning is caused by the white plastic because is symmetrical. If caused by paper grade label, would have more toning near that source.

    Apparently, those holders work miracles

From 90% white to that? a great deal
