Do you think this could be one of those 1966 “proof” dimes ?

they did not make proof dimes in 1966 (there were SMS sets - special mint set)

It seems to have the right "feel" and texture from the photo but all the "proofs" I've seen are hammered and this one isn't.

I know they didn’t make official proofs however the 1966 p dimes that appear to look like proofs are worth big money from what I’ve read.

What you have there is a standard 1966 SMS dime. Some of the coins from 1965-1967 come with very strong Cameo or Deep cameo frosting/appearance. The heavier the frost, the more proof it looks...

Nice looking dime.... I would not say 'proof' though... what does the reverse show? Could be - as suggested - a dime from an SMS set...Cheers, RickO

No. There are a few very early strikes from fresh dies that some confuse with "proofs." Maybe that is the "crow" approach, but in reality no authentic proof coins were made dated 1965-1967.

I'd say it sure looks like an SMS coin to me. Though it doesn't look to be in high enough grade to be of great value.

Here's my current SMS a PCGS SP67 CAM.
