Big Collecting Milestone!

mouschimouschi Posts: 695 ✭✭✭✭

As I found out a couple years ago, March 12th marks the anniversary of collecting.  I found an old journal from elementary school at my parent's house that said as much:

Since today marks the 29th anniversary of when I discovered my love for cardboard, I thought it would be a good time to show off my latest collecting milestone:

It is important to note that I didn't REALLY start on my Canseco collection until 2014, so the below is the result of four years of laser focus - much of this, I can thank many of you for pointing me in the right direction when you see a rare Canseco pop up.  THANK YOU!!!

Shown below are the 1,000+ unique pack-pulled Jose Canseco autographs & relics in my collection.

While I was at it, I calculated some other interesting numbers:

Over 200 1/1s
Over 140 unique cards numbered to /5 or less
Over 160 unique cards numbered to /10 or less
Over 270 unique cards numbered to /25 or less

To add it all up, that makes a total of nearly 800 cards that are numbered to 25 or less.

The pictures above represent approximately 20% of my entire collection :D

Thank you all again so much for all your help in building my collection!

I found a journal I wrote for a 3rd grade assignment in 1980. I was a serious collector even then. My dream card was a 1933 Goudey Lou Gehrig which I wrote would cost me $150.

    HOLY CRAP!!! Sweet stuff.

One night when I got his autograph (and Ozzie's autograph too), I will never forget how many girls he and Ozzie took out with them on the town as they left the team hotel and how many more they brought back with them at 2am that went up to his room. If those hotel room walls could talk that next morning...

Awesome achievement Tanner! What an impressive collection of the first 40/40 man...classic 1980’s icon. Here’s to the next 1000!

Mouschi, your Canseco man-crush never ceases to amaze me. Another excellent display for the throne. I'm afraid to ask what you would do with a game used jersey, or sock :o .

    Collecting PSA 9's from 1970-1977. Raw 9's from 72-77. Raw 10's from '78-'83.
Collecting Unopened from '72-'83; mostly BBCE certified boxes/cases/racks.
    Prefer to buy in bulk.

This is just outstanding. I applaud your passion and dedication and thank you for creating that image of all the Cansecos and sharing it with us. You are, without a doubt, the Canseco master. Which brings me to another point....

I have an '86 Donruss Rated Rookie at PSA now. If you wouldn't mind saying the Canseco prayer on its behalf, I would appreciate it, Pope of Cansecotown.

    Thanks so much guys!

I don't have too terribly many graded PSA cards, though I have a copy of each of his main rookies in PSA 10 format, but since the 1987 Topps rookie cup card is the one that started it all for me, I went ahead and grabbed a PSA 10 version of it. That makes #56 for me!

Congratulations. 2018 marks 30 years for me, but I don't know the exact date. I started at 4 years old and didn't think to keep records yet. I'm celebrating by getting at least one new card every single day of the year.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Tanner, I went to your site to look at the 52 '87 Topps but couldn't find where those are. Are you hiding those in a separate place?

It's all about the presentation, right? Honestly I'm quite impressed you were able to track all those down and indeed even were able to learn of their existence! For your numbered cards you got any that match Jose's jersey number?

It all is in how I titled them. If you search 1987 620 that should bring up everything :)

Thanks! I sure do - I don't know how many though, as I have never really intentionally tracked any serial number specific cards.
