Missing President Dollar

OnastoneOnastone Posts: 4,017 ✭✭✭✭✭

I was just looking at the Presidential Dollar coins and when the series ended in 2016 with a 3 coin set, it occurred to me that we were missing Jimmy Carter, as of course he is still alive! And I hope he lives a long and happy life. So I was just wondering....when he does pass, will he be honored with a dollar coin? Was a coin already sculpted for him? Isn't another Presidential series already scheduled? Just wondering.....

There is no follow up to them

Presidents had to be dead 2 years to be honored and those living will need another law to re-start things.

I don't know if the mint sculptors were preppers. I'll guess not.

As of 2014 (two years prior to his turn in line) Carter was out of luck since he was still alive :o He didn't meet the criteria.

The Presidential dollar program is complete. Any new dollars would need a new law, which hopefully won't happen. We've been abused enough.

(Although, I do wish Daniel Carr had done a Carter dollar).

These coin series are a blot on the mint's history.. prezzies, the hags etc., What a waste.... wish we could get back to Liberty and art....Cheers, RickO

I wouldn't say that Jimmy Carter was "out of luck" for having been excluded from this program.

One or two of the president's portraits actually resemble him.

Yet when the mint does Lady Liberty again a lot of people complain about that!

I did not complain about that.... I think the platinum designs are among the best the Mint is currently producing. Cheers, RickO

I like the coin, but I think the design is a little "cluttered".

Lots of gears, almost like the inside of a watch....what is she standing on anyway? Rocks? A mountain? A rocky shore? Yep, just a little cluttered. There is nothing wrong with a little open field sometimes.

@Azurescens ...As I said earlier in this thread, I like the platinum designs... some true art. The gears represent American industry... Cheers, RickO

You said it rick....true art. I agree, these are so much more artistic than some of the designs that are seemingly cranked out lately. It kind of reminds me of clip-art on many of the newer coins.

    D Carr: I see a business opportunity.

Full set, just press over some other ones, and have all the Presidents.

I will let you know my PP account so you can send me the Brilliant Idea money.

I sent him that idea a couple years ago, and I have to think he also had it himself. But, if he strikes a Carter dollar I'll split the idea money with you.

They could revive the series , as needed, for us OCD collector types who need continuation... but, it would take an act of Congress. And we know how Congress acts, when it comes to presidents.

Susan B Anthony comes to mind in ‘99.

Wait... SBA was PRESIDENT back in '99?! :o;)
