What happen to this 2015 Jefferson nickel?

KnellKnell Posts: 453 ✭✭✭✭✭

Got this in change from a local donut shop. I'm not an error collector, just wanted to know why the reverse is still in good condition if the obverse was hit by a hammer or something was done to it.

Damaged coin's reverse is on the right.

Thanks for any comments or input.

Doesn't look like a hammer or other strike to me. Looks like grinding or friction.

Post mint damage. Something like a tire turning with this under the tread?

As a Jefferson nickel nut, most times I would have an opinion. But, since you got it in change from a local "donut" shop, no comment. God only knows what those donut people did with that nickel.

BTW, I am 99.999999% sure it is post mint damage, but I am intrigued that there is no sign of metal being pushed over/past the edge. Still possible with PMD, but usually expect to see it.

Looks like a Dremel got a hold of it.

It looks as if it were obverse down and run over by a tire on macadam... Just a guess...Cheers, RickO
