Love all four coins, but they don't appear white on my screen. Camera white balance off?

The coins in hand are white as can be. The twenty center has very light gold toning and I mean very light. I have a cannon camera and use the auto white balance. I have tried the other settings with poor results. I have the hardest time trying to capture the true look of silver coins. Buffalo nickels and copper coins seem to photo better with my camera. Toned silver seems to shoot better as well. I would love to figure this issue out!

I use the auto white balance on fairly simple Nikon. Do you use a white or black background?

    The background is black.

Try a white sheet of paper. It's what I use with good results.

I will try tomorrow. Thanks for the tip. If it is that easy I am going to have to re-shoot a lot of coins!

A bit confused, what does rico got to do with it? Glad to see minimal toning, they look wonderful. Just make sure they are authentic. Congrats.

You answered your own question! @ricko likes them with an absence of "tarnish". Hehe.

Oh nice I thought the whole world went sick with that puke arse toning. Glad to see others wanting undisturbed blast white coins. All the QC / AT garbage should be sent straight to the smelter.

Weimans tarnish remover does work wonders.

You do realize that most of the white coins have been "disturbed" ? I have both.

I was checking the settings on my camera and found a custom setting for white balance. I took some new photos and think they are more representative of the actual coins.

Much improved. This is what I get with a white background.

Now that is truly mint state! Just the way I like them too. What's going on with the s in cents on the nickel? Is that perhaps a die chip?

The first thing that struck me was the reverse strike on the 20c. And it looks to be semi-PL on the reverse too. Really, really nice coins -- a great run of 1876's.

    I was wondering that myself.
