My Bust Quarters...............

Are now up to 57 die varieties. I was curious to see how my 'best' piece for each year would measure up. I only have a couple in MS grades so I knew that a high end set is not mine. Best piece to the registry means highest graded, but that is not necessarily the best piece in a set for each year. To me, rarity plays some role, as do the quality of the surfaces, the eye appeal, and the special characteristics of a coin that makes it special. Mostly though, my bust quarters meet my critieria for surfaces and eye appeal so in this case, the grade is what counts.
So I decided I would try to play the game and input a piece from each year into a registry set for 'Everyman Early Quarters (1796-1838)'. This is the first time I have ever done a registry set anywhere. I placed an additional requirement on what I put in - the coin must have a CAC sticker signifying PQ for the grade and good surfaces. For 2 of the years, my best piece in terms of grade did not pass CAC. So even tough they would carry more points, they were not added. One of my quarters I wanted to use, when I put in the PCGS number, it said it was already on the registry. So that one is not included yet and waiting for a resolution. It will bump the grade for that year from 30 to 45 and fill my requirement of a CAC sticker when added.
So after all of that, see the link below in my Signature to my new everyperson set. I started out in 5th place so not bad...... I may move up as I add pieces but really, I just wanted to see where my collection compares and I don't expect to ever beat out TwoBits amazing #1 set. I won't be motivated to buy to move up, but instead to meet my collecting goals. If that helps me move up, that is fine.

Here is one of of my bust quarters below that did not make the registry. Wonder why

Nice looking 1821, and keep plugging away at the varieties!
Lovey set with nice eye appeal you are building..
Great looking set, SH! Love the PCGS '21. And the colorful look of the '31. The above '21 is lovely too. Why no cross?
"57 varieties" has a nice ring to it. Makes me think of pickles.
Lance.
That is a nice 1821.
Awesome set!

I love the look of those Bust Quarters!![:) :)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Nice!
Thanks but right now is not a good time to cross given PCGS deciding to 'overcorrect' with their grading. I can wait it out until the want their stock to go up again and they loosen up. As I have said, I do like the PCGS holder better because it is easier to polish up..........

Those are exceptional. What a great set.
Thanks everyone for the comments!

That is a very nice set of coins.... well put together....A lot of work/fun involved there. Cheers, RickO
Love your quarters and really like your approach to the set - even if it means that I got bumped back to 6th![;) ;)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)

Congratulations on 57 varieties, and the very nice Everyman set SH! I really like the pictures you put together, and it's a different perspective than Trueviews. The additional requirement that every coin in your Everyman set must have a CAC sticker is extra ambitious, bringing it up a notch. Thank you for posting it.

Really impressive - especially for such a difficult series.
I got approved by the registry to update my 38. So it is now uploaded and recorded. Here is my 38 that is ineligible for the Everyman set...........
It is the latest die state I have ever seen with double clash marks on the obverse. Not a single one in the HA database that I have found has doubles.

That is a real nice one. I've found it difficult to locate nice higher-grade 1838s. Great add for your set!

Very nice set. I am a bit confused by the 1805 grading 5 points higher than the 1806. Is the 1805 variety notorious for weak strikes?
IrishMikey - that is a good point. I think the reverse is better on the 1805 in terms of less wear so it was likely judged to be a weak obverse strike - plus there may be an eye appeal factor - the 1805 is very original and the 1806 seems to me to have been lightly cleaned long ago but not enough to keep from a bean, in both cases those eye appeal/originality issues might have been part of the final grade.

Nice newp with the 1838...sharp strike!
