Nice struck-thru error on 1961-D Washington

Deep too!

Given the crazy cost of slabbing errors at PCGS I am guessing this is best left raw?

That is a major error. As it's in a Mint set that makes it more desirable - at least to me. Some of the TPGS will put "Mint Set" on the label to indicate where it came from. The cost for that is very cheap. I think I'd leave it in the Mint package.

    Strike-through or imperfect planchet?

What ever, it's neat it's still in the Mint cello.

AFAIK, the two things you mention do not look the same on a struck coin.

I saw an error in a mint set with the whole set "slabbed" in a sleeve by NGC. Not sure if PCGS offers the same, but I'd ask. Don't break it out.

Apparently, quality was NOT Job 1.

It looks like a ragged hole in Mr. Washington's head. The ragged edge is what I'm questioning?

    Nice deep strike thru error.

I have a sac that is stuck thru string in mint cell.

You are 100% correct, ragged hole. That is one indication why it was not on the planchet.

Nice find and still in the mint cello.....That would be worth slabbing and have some value to error collectors. Cheers, RickO
