2003 p dime missing silver layer help


Please help identify what happened here thanks in advance.

    If the silver colored nickel alloy layer was missing you'd see copper. Looks like exposure to a chemical from what I can make out.

    If it’s missing the silver layer, why does it look silver?

    I agree with chemical exposure.

    Laying on the road in chemicals is my guess.

    Since it is only a dime, experiment with it. Soak it in coke, or vinegar or ketchup. See what the surface reacts to. Peace Roy

    It seems that all of my 1965 to date dimes are missing their silver layer. :)
