Coin and Chronicles... what am I missing?

For some time I have been stumped by the disparity in cost between the Truman and Eisenhower sets. Both sold out in record time . Final mintage for the Truman shows 16,812, while the Eisenhower final mintage shows even less at 16,744 (per NGC). The price a Truman set gets on e- bay is about double that of the Ike set. Am I missing a valuable stamp included or something?

There was a 5 or 10 HH limit (or No limit) on Truman so people bought up a lot on speculation and they are tucked away. Ike had a low HH limit so more coins got into collector hands. It's basically an availability issue.

So I guess this means this is something that will work itself out eventually.

In theory, but in many cases it can take a long time for coins or sets that are locked up in collections to disperse.

I also believe that the mint state .999 medals (only 6 presidents) will rise in value when the proof .999 presidential series starts ( later this year I believe). I am not a big medal collector, but this series, if only that they are pure silver, is one I look forward to.

The medal market - especially the modern medal market - can be very fickle. Not a good area for profit....buy them because you like them....Cheers, RickO

I’ve got a bunch of Truman and Ike sets. I bought them as a pair thinking the Ike is extremely undervalued. Nearly 3 years later I’m still sitting with my position. Does anyone want some? ;)

I remember~15 years ago a similar discrepancy between 1995 and 1996 proof sets.

Are there any other medals that have been minted at .999 silver content? I know a vast majority are 90%... and that’s what I like about these C &C sets. Plus the relatively small mintage.

Once you get into the medals/tokens field, there are a myriad of possibilities. Silver rounds are very common in pure silver, covering all sorts of themes. Now, from the U.S. Mint itself, then there are a limited selection. Cheers, RickO

Also, most silver art medals are historically Sterling silver, which is .925.

I like the C&C silver medals but the reality is that there is a very limited collector base.
