Old Anacs holder question...............

DoubleEagle59DoubleEagle59 Posts: 8,342 ✭✭✭✭✭

Is this an old official Anacs holder or is it a homemade one with the Anacs documentation?

Also, is there any premium for such a holder?

Thanks,

I have one similar to that but with a Morgan dollar....I believe it is original. Cheers, RickO

I have a coin in a flip with similar paperwork.. I would love if it was presented that way!

The holder is aftermarket (from a company like Capital). From what I have seen, the coins were returned from Anacs in a plastic flip and then people would put it in other packaging.

This coin with the photo cert and holder would sell for a premium. In my opinion, it would go above 63 money (likely around what that $99 sticker says...could be a bit more or less depending if the right collector sees it).

Let's see the coin, it looks super nice from this distance!

Correct. We returned the coins in a polybag in a flip with the photo certificate in the envelope or box. The plastic case is an aftermarket addition by the then owner.

I own a ton of these. It is a Capitol aftermarket holder. I have some AU coins that are MS and some MS65 coins that are 62 or 63. On the expensive jump coins, like an 1892-O Morgan, and the coin is 65/65, it is almost never a 65.

The Capitol holders also came with the burgundy felt bag.

On the 1940 half, it looks 65 and worth the price tag. Somewhere I have some certificates from that same company!

I also have a Jefferson Nickel in one of these holders!

These are cool presentation pieces. I was lucky enough to get a nice Mercury Dime one a while back for cheap.

I have a couple of silver dollar holders in the burgundy bag.
A dealer here had a whole box of them -- a lot of silver dollar holders buy other sizes also -- he was asking $5 each.

Very cool thread - I never saw one of those aftermarket holders before.

It's probably a lock upgrade, those were worth a lot more when it was certified than now. Common Walkers have been going down for 20 years, you'd need a 65 cac or 66 to justifying grading fees.

I'm still a fan of the split grade system.

Does anyone think the obverse has a strike deficiency, the reason behind the MS63 grade?

It is an acceptable strike for a 65 grade.
