Help finding a 2004 article on Racketeer nickels

dbldie55dbldie55 Posts: 7,735 ✭✭✭✭✭

In the complete guide to Shield and Liberty Head Nickels, it mentions this article:

Racketeer Nickels and its Many Mysteries by Richard G. Young and Wade J. Wilkin

It does not mention where this was published. Any one know where I can get a copy of this article?

Never heard of it but it sounds interesting and informative. Try the ANA Library. Do you have one of the nickels?

Don't have the article but here's an example I've owned for 50+ years.

GEEZE Bob..........that's one nice specimen. From the looks of it, the wear hints that the coin probably fooled more than one person in its' travels.

From what I have seen, I do not believe many people actually did the edge reeding.

Why so secret? Please share it with all of us!

Not trying to be secretive. I had the article that dbldie55 was looking for. It was written in late 2003 and early 2004. It took me a few days to find it. When I did I discovered that I had a draft copy of the article. I don't know if the finished article was ever published anywhere. After finding it I then scanned it into PDF format. I tried emailing it to dbldie55, but the file was too big to email. I posted it on my website. It can be seen (and downloaded) at the link below.

I have one buried someplace - haven't seen it in years.
Will have to dig it out and see if it has a reeded edge.

If any one downloaded the article in my post above today before 3:30 Eastern, there were a couple of pages skewed. Please download again for the "fixed" version.
