would you request it to be holdered reverse-up? (non commemorative)

If you were to slab a reverse toner,

This is a public poll: others will see what you voted for.

The poll ended up formatted kinda funny but you get the idea.

I never liked the reverse up on any coin....I guess it's the OCD in me. ;)

I also voted "no", though at this time I am in the distinct minority. There are two reasons for my decision. The first is that a reverse-up coin might simply look "wrong", though with some classic commems who the heck might know which is obverse and reverse. Also, as a dealer, whenever I have had a reverse-up coin the one comment I hear over and over is "I wish it were obverse-up" or some type of derivation that tells me the coin would sell more quickly or for more money if slabbed in the traditional obverse-up paradigm.

Good point on the commems, I updated the poll to exclude them.

    Yes

    Absolutely.

I have two in my collection:

    1

The obverse of the coin looks like your boring, standard 1943-S Jefferson nickel. Some might even say it's ugly.

The reverse of the coin has this glowing neon toning that just pops when the light hits it(very hard to capture it in the photos). Both sides are prooflike so this reverse just explodes when your eyes hit it. I requested for NGC to grade it with the reverse side up.

    2

The obverse looks like your typical 1870 shield nickel. Some mild toning when looked at the right angle. Nothing to write home about or even bring a premium....yawn...I'm already getting bored.

Here is the reverse. BAM. You're hit some some nice greens, blues, pinks, and yellows. I already bought this holdered with the reverse side up. Sure, it stands out when it's with the rest of my shield nickel set, but we buy toning because we find it attractive and it makes the coin stand out.

Yes! Always. Just write the request on the submission. Sometimes they'll even do it if you don't ask because it should be done..

No, let it be a surprise when the slab is turned over...or wait for a double sided toner.

I have almost all of my reverse toners holdered reverse side up. It’s the money shot.

I especially like my commems reverse side holdered to the interesting side. Nothing more boring then old white dudes on the money side in genneral IMHO

By that logic it shouldn't matter which side is front... Maybe I should have added "Who cares" as an option. :)

My OCD says the front should always be the obverse.

Interestingly enough I heard many comment that they wished the reverse was facing up on many of the reverse toners I have had. It just seems like some want to find something to discount the price as it should not really matter which side is facing up-it’s still the same coin!

AmazonX's 1870 shield nickel has several broken letters on the reverse.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and CENTS

I count 7 broken letters but maybe I missed one. The record is something like 10 or 11, but 7 is a lot!

The broken letters result from damage to the working hub. Since there are multiple working hubs, one can see different combinations of broken letters. (1868 shields are different - no working hubs, only one master hub. So letters break in an unchanging sequence.)

Yes, but only if the reverse toning is eyepopping and the obverse is white.

No, it would bother me if the obverse were not facing the front of the slab.

I would use one of my hands to flip the slab to the side I like better. I could lay 100 slabs out on a table and they could be flipped over or not flipped over , they would not need to be in a 10x10 grid or even lined up in any particular way. Some could even be partially covering others .

I would not need to take any medication after seeing such a thing. I would not wake up screaming if I dreamed of something like this either.
