My resolution ducks on my phone but hopefully you can clearly see the two right eyes. Two ear lobs.

  • That is some seriously ugly ears. I'm going to go through my pocket change and see if I got one too. Thanks

I can’t see anything in your pic from outer space! Close ups would help!!

In order for something like this, if it is a variety, to ever gain popularity (and value) among collectors, it would have to be heavily promoted. Without the promotion, which may or may not succeed, it would be just another very minor variety that might be sought by a few cherry-pickers. Since cherry-pickers don't pay premiums (they just cherry-pick) it would soon fade into obscurity.

    All glory is fleeting.

there is something odd about the entire shape of the ear. I suppose it could be a major variety. The 84 double die does bring a significant premium. But it doesn't look like a doubled-ear or eye. It looks more like a blundered strike or die (or it's just the poor image quality). Look at images of the 84 doubled ear where 2 clear earlobes are seen. In this case, it looks more like a poorly formed single ear.

    Definitely unusual, though.

While the ear does appear strange, I am unable to determine what is actually the issue. We need some better resolution pictures..... Cheers, RickO

    Looks shopped to me.

Possibly a worn out die, but not doubled. Interesting. No meaningful value, however. Look for more that are identical to better support your conclusions.

The REAL Double Ear. I don't know what's going on by Lincolns eye, though.

Very interesting coin. Not as intriguing as your SERPENT penny, but interesting.

This looks like a doubled die to me - even with the fuzzy image (if not trick photography). The OP should get a big laugh when the image of his coin is plastered all over the front page of numismatic publications.

OP, send your coin to Coin World. Ken Potter will publicise it. Then have it graded. After it is on the front page, the two major TPGS's will not be able to wait for more to be found >:) before authenticating it. LOL.

The value will be determined by the market; however, many collectors and numismatists don't care much about the value of something. It is what it is.

Yes, in the "s-e-c-o-n-o-m-y (sic) pick (sic)" the artists (sic) signature is, as you say, "Clearly" doubled. The nostril is doubled. His cheeks are doubled. We get it. Relax. You're among friends here. At this point I'm seeing the whole darned thing as doubled. Doubled...doubled....And double DOUBLED!
And it's not out of envy or jealously. Just too much booze. God Almighty, I do hope, for your sake, that you have stumbled upon a rare, Rare, coin. Just please be gentle on the rest of us. Please? Pretty please? With a cherry on top!

P.S. Anyone around here that's familiar with IN-AND-OUT-BURGER,....all I can say at this point is..........Make mine a DOUBLE DOUBLE!

I agree completely. Maybe use two cameras. Somewhat like they did a hundred years ago with the "Magic Lantern" DOUBLE image glass slide projection system. Anybody remember that? Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is, DOUBLE-UP!

I think I see a doubled earlobe...hard to determine what is going on by the eye.
    Definitely interesting coin.
