Steve, Many thanks for keeping us informed where this dream card is at in the bidding. I think we'll see more action come Friday evening. --- Indiana Jones (Brian Powell)

I agree with ya on your first statement regarding cards.
Bitcoin processes around 2 billion dollars per day worth of transactions. Let's say the card sells for 4 million...that's only .002 percent of the total transactions value. Not an insignificant transaction of course, but not enough to provide any sort of cryptocurrencies boost by itself, in my opinion.

How long does extra innings take with Heritage generally speaking? This item might not end until like 4AM if they are like other auction houses.
I'm not sure how Heritage works.
Hopefully, there will be at least two whales at the end, who "must" have this card, and 4 or more million dollars to them isn't even a weeks pay.

Heritage seems to close surprisingly quick with the lot by lot format. I would estimate 2 - 4 hours tops for the items that get frequent bids, but most items close within the first hour or so it seems.
I wish they could live-stream this with potential buyers either in person or on the phone... see the emotion of the bidding and have the auctioneer there... haha... it could gain quite a few viewers + some extra $$ to HA + it would just be amazing to be the winner and share that emotion with others. It's similar to any big box breaks!

Yes, I think the auctions would definitely garner more money as well with this format.

Here’s something they sent me for an item I bid on at HA:
15 Minute Ending: On a lot-by-lot basis, starting at 10:00 PM CT, any person who has bid on the lot previously may continue to bid on that lot until there are no more bids for 15 minutes. For example, if you bid on a lot during Normal Bidding, you could participate during Extended Bidding for that lot, but not on lots you did not bid on previously. If a bid was placed at 10:03, the new end time for that lot would become 10:18. If no other bids were placed before 10:18, the lot would close.

The last Psa 9 Mick to sell was in December of 2006 with Memory Lane and it went for $282,588
A few years later you could have bought 1 Bitcoin for about .08 cents lol
That's always the million dollar question isn't it? There's always something, could be items similar to what you mentioned, could be a new company with a stock offering, almost anything, that 5, 10, or 20 years from now will grow to be worth a fortune from where it's priced at right now.
The biggest lesson I've learned in this hobby, and in life, is that if you have a strong conviction, you owe it to yourself to see it through. Don't sell yourself, or your investments, short. Unless the facts change. Then sell it all.

I guess from the previous info in this thread, there's still 5 minutes to go in the "Extended Bidding Period"
Even if the card stays at w/ Buyer's Premium (BP) : $2,880,000.00 that's still pretty impressive.
It is... I'm hoping for more fireworks though... I'd be surprised if it ended after the first 15 min wouldn't you?
I've never watched one before like this...i'm not sure if the posted price is still current or if the "extended bidding" is private that only the eligible bidders can see?
Looks like you are right...it's past 15 minutes and still going it seems.

I've got to go to sleep... the 30 min are up so either it's done or we don't see the extended bids although they do show it for the other auctions
If $2.88 million was the final price, curious as to why the final price fell under the $4 million number that was mentioned in pre bidding coverage. It surely had enough hype/time to bid. How does this lower than expected price realized affect the value of the 10's out there? Guess we will have to wait/see if a 10 surfaces in an auction.

Presumably that is the new owner. Hey, if someone just heard about the auction on the news and wants to offer him $4mil, I guess he is open.
That's an interesting thought.
I would think though that it's still the original owner accepting higher offers, and that the auction sale isn't officially done yet. Seems like they're trying to milk every last dollar out of this, and I wouldn't blame them. If this is the case, i would guess that the winning bidder was immediately notified that technically the card has not yet been sold?

I thought Heritage allowed winners of an auction to note on the completed auction that they are open to offers going forward, but I could be wrong.
You may absolutely be right. Certainly would be an interesting way of doing it.
Heritage Auctions’ Make Offer to Owner Program Hits $10 Million Record
DALLAS, Texas (Feb. 1, 2018) — Heritage Auctions' Make Offer to Owner (MOtO) service, a proprietary program in which clients make anonymous offers to purchase items previously sold at auction, enjoyed a record-breaking year in 2017 as sales surged to more than $10 million.
"This program combines two of the features clients consider most important: quickness and security," Heritage Auctions Co-Chairman Jim Halperin said. "It allows a quick way for a customer to continue pursuit of a missed auction item, and does so through a safe, efficient process that benefits both sides of each transaction."
The top seven MOtO sales yielded a six-figure return; seven of the top 10 lots sold during 2017 were sports collectibles and memorabilia.
Clients who enroll in Heritage's MOtO program have the opportunity to bid on items in select auctions within 72 hours after the conclusion of the sale for all items that have been in inventory for more than 30 days. Those who make an anonymous offer to will have their information transmitted by Heritage to the lot's owner, who then has the option of accepting or rejecting the offer, or presenting a counteroffer for the MOtO client's consideration. Heritage retains 10 percent of the total price as a commission and waives all credit card and/or PayPal fees. Transactions are managed through HA.com, which protects the privacy of all parties. Lots can be returned during a seven-day window, after which MOtO transactions are binding.

That sums it up perfectly.
Congrats on the sale. In my opinion you got a fair price for the card.
We all know that one day this will be a 4 or 5 million dollar card, but that day isn't here yet...perhaps five or ten years from now. However in the meantime, Evan and his family get to enjoy their new house, and of course that will go up in value as well, possibly at a higher rate than the card.
A fine transaction all around for buyer and seller.
