The coins in the NNC are early strikes off new dies -- that is all. No "SMS" or other bologna. Just part of the range of normal coins produced during the life of a die pair.

Anyone giving these things some special title is doing a disservice to honesty and reality. Where is the special title for coins near the end of a die pair's life? It's all part of the same continuum of mechanical stress and change to die steel.
