I would like an opinion on this penny. It is a Lincoln memorial although the date looks like 1914

I'd say more likely a 1974, you can see the point of the seven to the right. Kinda neat...but worth...$.01.

    Welcome aboard.

I like It, as a novelty.

  • Thank you for answering me. I didn't think it would be worth anything . I was just wanting someone else's opinion.

No doubt it was tampered with...but it's good you spotted it...it's good eye training!

You can see metal move on a Lincoln pretty easily, especially pre 82 examples.
Try it yourself. It can help you see what might have been done by someone nefariously.

Take a flat head screwdriver and on a cull wheatie push on the lower half of the 1 in the date.
Push it say toward the bowtie. Just push on the lower half and see how easily you can "move" the metal
and how the number 1 no longer looks like a number 1. Now this is pretty easy to detect as damage, but
you can be sure that people practice this over and over to try to make it less noticeable. But if you know what to look
for or what the telltale signs are than it really is easily detectable.

This doesn't always happens intentionally. In a lot of instances the coin is just impacted by something in
a way that results in moved metal. Sometimes the results are cool. I had to look at this one a couple times.
I see this and I think Stones - Sticky Fingers :)

Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
