2018 Native American $1 coins

So I received today my D&P Rolls from the us mint. My goal is to use my scope to carefully examine them to see if I can detect anything interesting and try to grade them.
First observation is the boxes. It seems that one box is marked dated 12-04-2017 and the next is dated 01-24-2018. I don’t know if that is when it was packed or when it was produced. I assume the later.
I will update this thread as I go along but comment welcome in the meanwhile.

Interesting. In the old days the mInt was normally (absent legislative exception) required to mint in the year that appears on the coin.
Do they always pack the coins with the observe facing outward on each end?

IMO, I tend to agree with you as far as the dates on the boxes being the date the coins were produced.
P.S. Good luck in your searching of the rolls.
First look at P roll not yet open. This one had both ends with observe facing out. First coin looks like a circle stamped out in the 1. Is that a struck thru?

What do you do with all the ones that aren't anything special?
Thanks to the smart people on here for passing along tips and pointers I sent mine back for a refund. I forgot to cancel my auto enrollment for these coins and when I seen a sports figure on US currency it’s time to stop. Even if it’s NCLT. More over priced mint garbage. Huge premium laden.
Good luck !!!
Well, a very interesting thread that you have started here. Great work and thanks for sharing these insights! I have been collecting some modern coins as well, and this experiment looks really exciting!
I bet the Denver ones look nicer than Philly.
That should be fun... hope you find something unique.... that indentation in the 1 looks like it may have been a strike through... die chip or some other random debris. Cheers, RickO
Jim Thorpe deserves to be on a coin. one of the top 10 athletes of all time
@DBSTrader2 use it for tips. It gets the attention of waitstaff as its not something they see everyday.

From your pics that is a great design.
A worthy subject for commemoratiing.
I collect the D mint coins. Here's the way they've came since 2012...

Like every year. I need a roll of P&D, even though I only put one of each in my album

I totally agree about Jim Thorpe being honored, however that is a terrible depiction

All of the talented artists, engravers and illustrators in this world and this is the best that the US Mint can produce .
It’s sad
I agree somewhat with Bigpoppas...... In general, I like it, but think the "grass" on the bottom half kind of obscures the portrait & figures.
I think they would have stood out better without a background. There's some "texture" to the figure on the right, but another interesting option may have been to produce the 2 smaller figures in a "frosted" style, similar to what the RCM did in Canada with their "Whales" & "Exploration" quarters a few years ago, if people are familiar with those (see below, both "frosted" & "un-frosted" styles, both issued for circulation).
Of course, a larger size coin to start with (like the half-dollar?) would likely have been a better vehicle for ATB quarter & NA $1 designs/series in the first place. t sure why they're not using that denomination for designs of any sort anyway, since they don't get produced for circulation either...... another revenue-producing avenue for the government, I'd think.....
Just received mine yesterday, and as usual the Denver mint coins are have less contact marks on them. The satiny luster of the Philly ones are really nice, yet they (the ones I have anyway) are showing more marks. It's like the bin they fall into is about five feet lower from the ejection point, and then jostled about much more.
I admire your interest. I would love if you found something of interest. Feels like you enjoy the Treasure Hunt. Suggest you find an old collection to go through.
