2018 Proof Gold Eagles - household limit 1

Did anyone else notice that the mint has assigned mintages to all options of the Proof Gold eagles this year? They’ve also added a HH limit of 1 per product. With the current premium on Proof Gold I wonder why the mint thinks that this is a good idea.
@BackroadJunkie you’re asleep at the wheel

Don't see any 2018's on their website, but they're still trying to sell 2016, 2017 AGE proofs.

I see 'em, March 1, 2018.
Well, I gotta admit, I wasn't expecting this. I usually only look if they put the images up.

Given the 2017 sales, this probably isn't anything to get excited about, but I am surprised at the mintages/HHL's. I'm not sure they've assigned such things before for the AGE...
My self assigned Household Order Limit is different. I march to my own drumbeat ... not the US Mints. Sorry if they don't like it.
My HHL for 2018 Proof AGE 's will be 0. As in ZERO.
Dat's some unusually low mintage numbers.

Interesting... low numbers and HHL's....not many collect AGE's as a series... I did for about twenty plus years... then premiums/prices happened....Cheers, RickO
what am I missing? Even though the mintages may seem low, they are double to triple what the 2017 sales were for the similar items. Why would a "low" mintage be considered anything special if they are still so much higher than recent sales were?
low initial mintage numbers are unusual for AGEs regardless of past sales. It's special because it's a first when it comes to AGEs.

Don't take the bait.
Not compared to sales in recent years. Those are some whopping big numbers.
And it is worth noting that the wholesale premium on proof eagles is down to virtually nothing - $15-25 over spot.
My recommendation is stay away unless you are a long term hold. Even then, they will likely be cheaper next year on the secondary market. Look at these retail prices on 2016 proofs:

oh, just saw you put them at the bottom
the kicker is the 4 coin set. from what it looks like, they sold ~20k 1/10th ouncers across the 4 coin and Single.
this year they'll do 22k.
no rush on these. they'll sell out of everything but the 1 ouncer in about 9 months to a year.
the mint probably thinks they can get a better first day of sales with a hh limit. I suppose some people will fall for it
Yes but next year, look for a Bulk monster box just like with the ASE's. Available to non Dealers at a HHL of 1.
Going to get the 10th oz, to keep it running. I went with the proof version for my collection. At least, all the proofs that were available. No proof years 1986, 1987 and 2009.
Very nice display
Where did you get the plastic?
Capital Plastic #MA 437 & MA 437A, Ordered & picked up at my Local B&M.
I think is is a great idea.
Bazillions of people complain when an item blows up in .2 nanoseconds sold out, and flips for 3x a minute later.
They can always relax the 1 HH limit after a day week month, whatever.
27% over spot for these proofs??
I don't think so...
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
u.s. mint gold eagles are at a 10 year low in sales. the 2018's will not even sell out
http://www.kitco.com/news/2018-03-01/Feb-U-S-Mint-Coin-Sales-Weak-Dishoarding-Premiums-Behind-Decline.html
This may cause me to dishoard some of my proof AGEs as well. They just have to keep messing with us.
I knew it would happen.
HHL's for proof AGE's? That's like putting HHL's on proof ASE's. Can't figure out why they'd but a product limit on 'em, either.
I haven't checked the sales for the past 5 years for all of these products, but none of these will even sell out. Demand for these have been declining for years.
On the other hand, if they're going to put HHL's of one on the AGE's and the gold breastie commem, are we going to see HHL's of one on the Reverse Proof set and the S-Mint ASE? That might upset me.
(The fact I'll have free shipping by then and won't have to pay another shipping charge later when I order more does make it less upsetting.
)
They've learned that when they put HHLs on items, flippers go bananas and buy them out.
They have NOT learned that it is certain product types, and not others, that sell out quickly with HHLs.
The USMint is NOT staffed with highly intelligent people....not the management nor the marketing sides
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
I'm going to venture a guess as to where the US Mint gets it's "College Degreed" brainiacs in marketing and management, etc. They get people who spent 5 - 10 years working at Wal- Mart , McDonalds and Starbucks after getting their Party Degrees at Party U. These people hang out in Georgetown and look down their noses at the Peasants who buy Mint Product.
HHL's are gone, just in case you need to stock up on proof AGE's.
Haven't seen any first day sales figures, but they're all still available...
