Will we ever see another Eagle on the back of our quarters again?

OnastoneOnastone Posts: 4,150 ✭✭✭✭✭

Our quarters are ever-changing. Statehood quarters, StateParks, then another State Quarter series waiting in the wings...I miss the Eagle design I grew up with. The quantity of new designs seems to diminish the quality too. Anybody else feel that way too?

No, there isn't another quarter series planned.

The announced American Innovation series that passed the House is a dollar coin series...

When the present series ends in 2021, they may be able to skip minting additional quarters for a year or two - the banking channels must be clogged with excess Statehood quarter dollar coins.

Of course, the "profitability" of the U.S. Mint would suffer, but that's small potatoes in the Federal scheme of things.

I would like to see the Eagle come back... the multi-designs of the last two decades have become trashy.... I know it brought some young collectors to the hobby... however, it commercialized coin design and cheapened the appearance of our coins. Cheers, RickO

The trouble with many recent coin designs is that most designers see (or misunderstand) coin design as 'poster art' - i.e., large and two dimensional. Good coin design is sculptural - typically small and definitely three dimensional.

Yep, the original Washington quarter is a much better design in my opinion.

Let's hope it is better than the "hanging bat" Flanagan cobbled together at the last moment.

I also like the older version of Washington over the smaller/sharper image that accompanied the State Q's...... Bring that & the Eagle back for a while & save the half-dollar or dollar coins for "specials" to get their circulation numbers up - - people already circulate quarters with no problem. Start gaining acceptance of the other 2 coins & te Treasury might even be able to bring out all the old ones they have stored away wasting money.......

Just read up on the possible new "American Innovation" $1 coin series. I don't think I will even attempt to start collecting them. They will likely be ugly, have no intrinsic value, sell only for a premium vs actually circulate, and just add to the mess we have with both paper & metal for $1.

Maybe if they circulate them freely at face, get rid of the paper $1, and return the other $1 coins from storage I'll consider it. But until then, this will be my form of protest that it's "enough already". Someone has to cut off the company that produces the paper for the $1 bill from the gravy-train........... :(

I would not put it past some Congress-critter to propose a state bird series, or some other boondoggle.

The poor Washington quarter - what did it ever do to deserve this abuse? The upside is that they got rid of the spaghetti hair portrait of GW.

Another upside (or is it a downside) is that it is easier to pass off foreign cons as US quarters now that no one really knows what a quarter looks like anymore.

Only if eagles can get recognized as a minority, start some exclusionary groups and begin wielding pressure on politicians who will do anything to get their vote.

Just wait 30 years when all the eagle backs are gone.. then people will really appreciate the design. It’s a fantastic eagle.

I hope so...I totally agree the eagle is a simple and elegant design!

This thread needs a picture - show your eagle designs!

It really doesn't matter collecting wise to me as I only collect the Silver Quarters 32-64. But it would be nice to see the Eagle back on the Quarter.

As long as the quarter program makes money.........the Eagle will not return to the roost.
