Finally able to get close but not sure if this could of been created after or in circulation vs at mint. It is a pocket change find.

I vote PMD. It meets my suspicion that otherwise beat up coins are generally not errors.

@jbk that was my first thought but does not explain the lack of rim.

Good pictures Kathy... and I do see why you question it.... I am sure Fred W. will chime in... my 'guess', after looking at all the pictures (good job there) though, is likely PMD.....Cheers, RickO

PMD Rim smashed down somehow. Can't always explain PMD but we know it when we see it .....

This image tells me PMD, the rim goes across straight across the RIC, the die didn't suddenly become straight there, so it tells me the coin was damaged by a force to the outside rim...as if in a vice that moved the metal in forming the straight line.

I agree that this coin was damaged post mint. Looks like it was squeezed and compressed, the squeezing flattened the rim and the compression flattened the edge.

Put it in the reject slot at the next Coin Star. It will make one of these people's day.

@seanq thank you for the detail explanation. I agree and can see the rippling under my scope. Now I can distinguish them quickly. You get a gold star in my book.

@Kkathyl ... The coin it looks to be PMD. One other thing.....
I have been looking for a post that you posted on the Q&A forum explaining how you fit a lense from a camera onto the phone case to get a close up ? Would you mind in short telling me what you did? It would be most appreciated.
