Just got this through the ebay message system. Feel free to take him up on his offers

New message from: (0)
I am a licensed coin dealer in Minnesota. My corporation deals with only the rarest versions of both American and foreign coins. I am curious if you are open to purchasing directly from my company. I have coins that have sold on pre-sale for $199 last December that are now selling on this platform for $599. I also have Morgans signed by Edmund Moy which are very rare.

Our pricing is often pre-sale so our clients get ground floor cost on coins before market values are established. Let's talk...we just finished a pre-sale on the 1/10 oz $10 gold pieces the world hasn't seen since 2008 when the mint struck the gold buffalo coins. The mint created a new Lady Liberty series and we had the world exclusive on the 1st day West Point Proof 70 coins signed by Thomas Cleveland, world pop 50. Let's talk.

may the fonz be with you...always...

Surprised that made it through the ebay messaging system. They certainly block a lot less.

Isn't trying to make a deal outside of eBay by this person contacting you against eBay policy? I'd report it to eBay.

  • JimnightJimnight Posts: 10,846 ✭✭✭✭✭

    Shaking my head no.

Amazing.... I would think ebay would terminate his account.... that is a violation of policy... plus, it reeks of deception and lack of pertinent knowledge. Cheers, RickO

A licensed dealer who never ever did any business on eBay (based on his 0 feedback), but now gets an eBay ID so he can troll for business. :*

Scams this bad almost make you want to try it out just to see how bad it is.

You should reply and tell him you are visiting MN soon and want to drop by to see what he has available.

Tell him to contact you on your personal e-mail but send him the Numismatic Crime e-mail address.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

Doing the tv hack via ebay messaging is what's happening even down to the slightly incorrect relevant coin information

Every winter, to show his prowess, the Prince of Lagos, MN walks on water, then returns to the safety and warmth of the tavern overlooking the frozen lake.

That last message to joebb21 is enough to kill a Minnesota mosquito in mid-summer!

  • joebb21joebb21 Posts: 4,774 ✭✭✭✭✭

Well here is where this will end and if anyone is interested in taking over I will let them.
Turns out there is a "real" company behind this message.

    I asked

"So that I understand, what makes these 2 coin sets so valuable is the fact that the holders were signed by edmund moy?"

    And their response:

Yes, exactly. Signatures from the likes of Moy or Mercanti will greatly influence the values and demand for coins. Those Morgans were eaten up by our clients today. I am confident that my coins can be purchased by re-sellers like yourself and sold for a profit on various online platforms like this. I am new to the firm, so I'm looking for potential buyers outside of our company database. We are an A+ BBB corporation and guarantee all purchases for 30 days from the day of delivery. We do business in the state of Minnesota, the only state in the US which requires licensing through the department of commerce to conduct bullion transactions. In short, you'll never have to worry about a bad coin deal when doing business with us.

I would just need to get you added to our company database and into my queue so you'll have a chance at the real time coin deals when they happen. Without this, you'll have no chance at most of our opportunities. This is also necessary so you can do your due diligence on us to validate everything I'm telling you. Not all the deals we conduct have such sensitivity to the clock, but for the very rare coins they do. Pre-sales as I told you before would present the best opportunities and I would be able to easily keep you informed via email in real time once you have a profile set up in my company database. Ebay guidelines prohibit any personal sharing of contact information so simply google Legacy Inc. In Vadnais Heights, MN and call the 800 number to reach our company directory. From there you can reach my direct line at extension

may the fonz be with you...always...

.. and the MN law was supposed to rid the state of telemarketers hyping overpriced stuff.

Interesting as there is a sign out front "Sales Closer?" Now Hiring

Well I give the guy credit for creativity in finding new marks. So instead of a total scam operation we have just an old fashioned boiler room telemarketing operation.

If only Edmund Moy knew how much his signature was worth, on unrelated coins no less, he might have stuck around longer to sign more labels.
