Looks like shipping is a rip off.

Haven't seen those but I did purchased some empty monster boxes from that seller probably several years back. Her shipping charges sure have increased since then. lol

I still get my coins back in the plastic blue box's.

Whaaaaa? Cardboard? Really? The seller also says that PCGS has decided not to manufacture the plastic ones anymore..."apparently". Doesn't cardboard help tarnish your coins? If I'm not mistaken, I think there is a gas-off from cardboard. I could be wrong, these might be the best coin holders yet.

If true, I hope PCGS was smart enough to "Own" the injection molding die for their boxes. Normally you pay for tooling up front with the die house/molder. If not, they would have to ante up for another die which is expensive. (Way more expensive than the steel rule dies you use to punch out cardboard).

If PCGS owns the die, it would be simple enough to move it to another supplier - assuming of course, they want to pay the going price.

If PCGS doesn't own the die, wouldn't it be nice if they would design a new box and build a new die that holds all their slabs plus ANACS and NGC. I'd swap out all my green and blue PCGS boxes AND my smoke, silver, and red NGC boxes.

    Sheesh.

We heard more than a year ago that PCGS was moving to cardboard. Kinda fell off the radar as blue boxes kept arriving.

I have no doubt PCGS made sure the boxes were safe for storage.

Two row and 3 row boxes would be nice too.

Not sure I'll get one UNLESS the dividers are plastic. :D

Will they continue to sell the plastic on the website or should we now buy the plastic?

The blue plastic 20-coin boxes are apparently still available direct from PCGS: https://www.pcgs.com/store/p-20-pcgs-plastic-storage-box.aspx

I'm guessing the 25-coin cardboard box is primarily intended as a shipping container -- not for long-term storage.

That's for six boxes. A little high but not outrageous.

Thanks for clearing that up. Phewww! Yes the cardboard is just a shipping box and costs a whopping dollar each direct.
    Hmmmm, a silver dollar? ;)

You are forgetting the original black vinyl coated tagboard rattler box as shown below.

Cardboard is just not as impressive as the plastic boxes... seems 'temporary'....and if they encounter water they will detererorate quickly. Long term and sturdy, I will stay with the plastic. Cheers, RickO

Should have looked closer. The size [length and volume] makes shipping stuff like that a real PITA.

I'm thinking this might be used for bulk orders?
Little guys would still receive the nice blue plastic box?
    I hope so...

  • It's interesting how rumors get started.

Those cardboard boxes were used to ship certain bulk orders last year. We haven't used them this year.

  • This content has been removed.
  • Actually, we shipped a LOT of them, especially in the first quarter of the calendar year.
