1868 3 Cent clashed variety

Is there a variety for this? It looks like the die impression clashed upside on both sides.

Any info?

Probably is, struck with clashed dies and they are very common on thin coins. Perhaps the Mad die clashes web site (if I recall) will put a # on this one for you.

Clashed die coins are very common on nickel three cent pieces, especially the early dates.

1868 B04b is used in Allan Gifford's book to indicate

    • non-repunched date
    • double clash on both sides.

But this is not specific to a die marriage; more like a group of die states.
He estimated 65 obverse and reverse dies were used and did not identify all of them in the book.

    This is certainly true.
Sometimes it is tougher to find a coin devoid of clash marks.
