The 49ers and QB Jimmy Garoppolo have agreed to a five-year, $137.5 million contract, source says. The biggest deal in NFL history on a average-per-year basis.

$90M guaranteed in his first 3 years will be the most any NFL player has ever made....for 7 starts.

is there a little disconnect between professional sports
and the sheeple that are expected to buy the fritos, bud light & trucks
to support the ads to pay these salaries ???
There's obviously value in this player, but perhaps it's like paying a million dollars for a 52 Topps Mantle PSA 7. I guess the 49ers think that they're getting a PSA 10, but they are not.
Good for Jimmy G, when I see Joe Flacco signing 100 million dollar contracts then nothing surprises me. Personally if I’m the 49’ers I would have put a franchise tag on him and see how he handles a 16 game season as a starter if that was an option.
Matt Cassell the sequel.
Patriot wannabe teams will never learn.
Matt Cassel never started a game in college,he was a product of NE's system and was given the reins to a 16-0 offense coming off scoring the most points in NFL history which led to his payday. There is a HUGE difference in talent between Cassel & Garoppolo, who was a 2nd round pick for a reason.

You're worth exactly what the market will bear. Good for him.
Dave
I could win 8 games at QB under Belichick., particularly with the balls inflated to my liking.
My comments were a compliment to the coach, not a slam to the QB. He is not likely to have the success that nearly $30,000,000 a year implies.
You know Kirk Cousins is out there right now celebrating this deal.

You could count the amount of QBs in NFL history on one hand that could be worth $30M a year but that is the going rate for franchise QBs in 2018. QB salaries keep going up every year or two. Cousins is next then if Wentz,Goff & Prescott keep developing they'll probably all top that number when they get extended.
edit: the 30M/yr doesn't matter as much as the 90M guaranteed. Chances are if he turns into a star in SF they probably extend him before this contract ends.

Question is, is he a franchise QB? We will know a year from now.
i think he is. I really wanted him to replace Brady but the timing made it impossible.

If nothing else, the signing shows that SF and Lynch are serious about restoring a winning culture in SF.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
now all San Francisco has to worry about is paying the other 51players
as the guy who thinks the best part of the winter olympics is biathlon your judgement cant be trusted
He’s got the swagger and the talent. Good for him.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Ever watch the Biathlon?
I don't blame Garoppolo for taking the money. My guess is that he will be a lesser bargain than Jimmy Harbaugh.
Ya gotta wonder if perhaps this signing amount goes a bit deeper than what appears on the surface. Could be a message to Vince McMahon that you're not going to "steal" any of our top players with your XFL experiment. And to dissuade other potential investors/owners in the XFL from joining in.
I think McMahon is putting up a hundred million dollars to start the entire XFL. That would only buy 73% of this one player. LOL
how exactly? sports like that there are 140 no name athletes the tv shows 4 of them for 30 seconds. ski ski lie down shoot pea shooter ski some more
If you said women's curling I would agree with you
This was an EPIC prank to arguably Boston's biggest tool in the media,Ron Borges of the Boston Herald. Some guy came across Ron's cell phone number so he started texting him as Tom Brady & Jimmy Garoppolo's agent Don Yee saying Brady is gonna sit out OTA's if he doesn't get the same amount of money from NE. Ron Borges ran with it posting an article in the on the back page of the newspaper along with a writeup for the website. The guy then called into a sports talk radio this morning to let everyone know it was a prank.

Well, good for him. He didn't have much of a future in New England. That is Brady's one big flaw. His insistence upon playing almost every snap which leaves no room to develop a replacement.
Still I think that San Francisco is jumping the gun. He has not won anything big yet.
