This guy lives near me and has been told (repeatedly) he has a cast replica.

He won't stop. Once somebody explains to him he just goes to the next person trying same thing. Even if we get the listing down he'll keep up trying to find a sucker but maybe eventually he will learn the lesson or give up. He plays the "IDK no nothing" strategy and has different stories on how he got it but usually he "found it" (storage locker or old house) story.

He might have started to accept reality and put it under "Exonumia" category maybe to claim it is a "medal" of the rare coin or something. I don't know. You might think he is just not too bright and can't accept reality but he knows the truth and just keeps hoping some novice with cash comes around. If history is any indicator he put it under "Exonumia" hoping the colonial guys don't see it and call him out.

If get a chance flag it.

We have a few of those here. They are only looking for answers that validate their own opinions.

I swear this guy won't give up. I think everybody in KY and IN has talked to him. At first we thought he was just slow but the inconsistent stories and the fact that when told it was a replica his response was to just casually walk off or that instant drop all communication (hung up on me and never called back mid-explanation) it became clear he is well aware what he is doing.

He MIGHT not have known at first but at this point its like a scam of opportunity because he has been told, explained, and shown in person way too many times.

This is a case of an individual that is convinced that he can make some money off an item he has acquired - if he just keeps trying.... sounds like he is highly motivated...may have been initially scammed and now trying to recoup his loss. I am not trying to justify his actions... just a possibility... Cheers, RickO
