Philadelphia Mint - Gold Process Record (excerpt)
From about 1885 through 1933 the US Mints each kept detailed records of the movement of gold through various processing steps until it became coin accepted by the Superintendent as legal tender. Very few numismatists have seen or even heard of this useful source of detailed information.
The double page shown below. April 1932, is a typical example showing gold moving from the M&R Department to Rolling and Cutting in the Coining Department. All quantities are in troy ounces. It was only at the final step of counting that dollars (or number of pieces) was used.
Most of these journals were discarded although the one from 1929-1933 was preserved. The 1932 data showed the carry forward of about 400 oz from 1932 to 1933 and this included the necessity of removing 42 1933 DE at the beginning of March 1933, and adding them to the 1932 account in order to balance the 1932 double eagle books.
Have fun!

This reminds me not to post a bunch of numbers, no matter how interesting I think it is. Presumably, the 25 people who looked at this are still sleeping.
I find it interesting Roger... and likely others will when they wake up or do their weekend viewing... Thank you for posting it...Cheers, RickO
This is similar to what we do where I work to track a job from beginning to end using the info to cut back on losses, inefficiencies or theft which may be the case when working with gold.
