Adventures in Designing a Coin Related Logo ...
I've been trying to develop a logo for my coin hobby. Any thoughts or feedback on this mockup ?
I was trying to incorporate 1.) my screenname, 2.) an image reflecting a Winged Liberty, 3.) something to tie this with coins (the rim and reeded edge) -- I dropshadowed the inside edge of the rim to give it the appearance of depth, 4.) using 13 stars somewhere (a classic coin design element) 5.) rainbow or spectral colors (since I like rainbow toned coins). 6.) I even managed to sneak in my birth year of 1957 into the Serial Number since I go by WingedLiberty1957 in the Forum.
Any thoughts for improvements or tweaks. I know it's a bit obtuse using an image for an old currency note for a coin hobby, but it is all money after all -- and it's probably my favorite image ever for a Winged Liberty allegorical design. So much drama there and I love that sort of old classical artwork from the 1890s to 1920s. I actually do collect old currency as well as coins by the way.

I love it! Such a cool idea and well executed.

Always buying numismatic literature and sample slabs.
Keep the logo simple. That will help ensure it is recognizable at any size or in B&W or color. If your sample above were printed, much of the central engraving would "block up" with black ink.
Just some thoughts.
A little too busy for my taste.
Good feedback. Yes all that detail will not print well. Its for screen only by the way.

It looks promising. I'm sure a Photoshop pro could remove some of the note elements to clean it up.
Might be interesting to have Dan Carr turn it into a numismatist token too.
i had no itention of using this in print media, but those comments got me curious. So I printed off a copy of this logo on my $50 Canon Inkjet Printer, then took a picture of the printed copy with my iphone (hand held photo with a shakey hand).
I am shocked it turned out this good.

I'd probably remove the serial number and change "SERIES OF 1896" into "SERIES OF 1957" given your screen name.

Used the levels slider to take out some of the darkness in the central image and reduced the amt of rainbow to just a circle. yes perhaps removing the serial number is a good idea. I also had some suggestions offline on editing the central image a bit more (taking out some of the currency effects) -- havent done that yet. Thanks for all the great ideas everyone.

Reducing the rainbow background was a big improvement.

College student here majoring in graphic design. I could do some mock ups for you if you wanted. For your rainbow toning idea I would actually sample some toning from a coin. The rainbow you have now doesn't match the currency. You could sample some toning from a nicely toned coin off of PCGS coin facts and use that as your base. I may mess around with a logo for my own picture cause I don't have one currently.
I liked Tom's idea of the "Series of 1957."
Sounds good josh. I will pm you.

I like your last version and I think it would make a great coin.
Unless you are gay, the rainbow really doesn't make sense or look right. And I don't mean that offensively at all.
That is a very nice design...and simplifying it was definitely an improvement. In my experience, logo's are usually not complex.... Will you include this on business cards? If so, that will likely increase the cost....Cheers, RickO

I've used a sites like 99designs and Freelancer in the past for small projects for my iPhone apps. Listings for icons and logos are very common. You could get some excellent mockups for maybe $20.
Check out my iPhone app SlabReader!
I do like the new round logo. It would be a perfect fit for your card.
