1795 Gloucester British Conder Token The Thames & Severn Canal was authorised in 1783 and completed by 1789, running from the Stroudwater Navigation at Wallbridge to the Thames at Inglesham by Lechlade. It was built to two different dimensions. The western end was for Severn Trows as shown on the token and the eastern for Thames Western Barges. The transhipment point and canal office from which the token shows was at Brimscombe Port east of Stroud in Gloucestershire,

This is an extremely well made electrotype higher graded example maybe AU50, of a private New York issue attributed to the small coinage operations of John Bailey and Ephraim Brasher in and around New York City, possibly from a pattern issue that the coiners struck in connection with failed copper coinage petitions that were submitted to the legislature in February 1787. These particular coins range in price form $30-$40,000 to $80,000 in AU50 grade.
The Excelsior copper is known in three varieties.
Low- and midgrade Excelsior coppers typically come with significant environmental impairments, such as granular fields.
