Hello,

I found this interesting little thing in my spare change bottle the other day. Does anyone have ideas as to what is going on, in addition to the obvious lamination failure?

Maybe it cannot be seen easily in the photo... I see the doubled numbers, mint mark, and Lincoln head. All of the letters are much wider and flatter than any other pennys I have compared it to as well. The copper is flaking off in several locations and the rim has been rounded and slightly rolled over on each side.

That's a description of mechanical/ejection doubling.

@AR15dcm...I see no lamination issue (you may be confusing the term)... I do see the phenomena you describe... I would attribute that to die deterioration and/or mechanical doubling. Welcome aboard... Cheers, RickO

Looks like a dot after the "Y" of LIBERTY. The zinc is starting to appear by the "D" MM, unless it's the photo playing tricks with thine eyes.

Wouldn't this still be considered a mint error? Myself and another guy on the Coin Community Forum have the only two examples of this I have found so far. Both are 1992-D Lincolns.. I have heard of "machine doubling" in a different discussion. However isn't doubling, doubling? If a single planchet is struck twice its a double right?

BlueJayWay, I think what you are seeing is just one of many ripples, ridges, and single "points" sticking up from the coin.
