1964 D Washington Quarter "edge peeling waving"

Any ideas on what caused this issue on this uncirculated Wash? The edge is wavy and looks like it is peeling up like its clan. The coin is weighing out as silver.

Used up 'die eroded' reverse die. Interesting how it waved the edge by the lettering.

Maybe they were using it up because they were switching die designs in '65. This is a Type A '64 D. Makes you wonder if that's why they started using the Type C die design, made for the Clad 1965s a little early in '64...They had to because the die completely wore out.

Die erosion is what it looks like to me. In reference to the type C reverse, 1964 dated quarters were being minted into 1965 and that is how the type c reverse made it on to 1964 D quarters.

Looks like die erosion... and the reasons above are what I believe to be the cause as well. Cheers, RickO
