1980 D difference

I apologize for the newb question, but am still learning to identify. I’m confused why if all pre-‘82 Lincoln cents were minted in copper why some coins looks like copper plated zinc?

The shinier ones are less circulated, and closer to what they looked like when new.

Some people buy uncirculated rolls and go through them... and then when they're done with them... put them into circulation by cashing them in.
