Wow. Certainly that is more than just wear from circulation. Is this fire damage?

Thanks for showing.........that kind of reminds me of my days I spent in the morgue......seeing something I wish I had never seen.

The cratered, bubbled surface would seem to suggest that.

    hahaha, worst trade dollar ever

And yet, I am oddly drawn to it. Like a dumpster fire or a ten-car pileup, you don't necessarily enjoy watching it, but it's hard to look away.

I bet it could tell a good story!

    Wow, that's awful.

    Possibly salt water damage?

How are we sure this isn't a Chinese counterfeit? ;)

  • Batman23Batman23 Posts: 5,003 ✭✭✭✭✭

Reminds me of looking at a softer metal counterfeit.

    Graded MS-70 for "melt-soon".

That coin is simply waiting for the melting pot.... and likely worth below melt due to weight. Cheers, RickO

    No, you win.

Title says from the 1870s but it could be a proof only 1880s issue, maybe even an 1885? OK, probably not.

I am not even sure it is real. It has an odd mix of heavy wear and the appearance of rough raised imperfections such as that from environmental damage.
