Counterfeit trade dollar?

Appears to be a 1876s trade dollar type 2/1 with chop marks (which doesnt exist). interestingly, it looks like it has a doubled die on the obverse, which isnt known to exist for coins with a type 1 reverse. thoughts? Could the doubling on the hand actually be 3 fingers that makes it appear to be 4 fingers? My bet is on counterfeit though.

ICG likes it as authentic

It looks genuine to me. I think it's a type 1/1, the chopmark sort of flattened the ribbon tips but I think they point to the left. I see what you mean about the fingers, but I think the lighting is playing tricks on me and it's actually 3 fingers. I'm no expert and I expect someone more knowledgeable will be along presently.
It certainly looks legit to me.
I agree with what Kaz said above.
The left-most ribbon tip is definitely pointing to the left, so it's not a Type 2 obv. The lighting around the fingers confuses things a bit, but I see only three fingers. I took down the brightness a bit and played with the contrast. Coin looks real to me.

.. and the doubling looks like a little bit of machine/"shelf" doubling to me.
While the coin appears authentic... to me, it looks as if the fingers have been tooled...Cheers, RickO
Looks legit

Nothing about this Trade Dollar appears counterfeit from the photos, but it is always difficult to tell until you have the coin in hand with all of the necessary tools for authenticating them at the office. I'm glad my Trade Dollar research paper experience is finally paying off for the service of helping others on theirs, LOL.
Curious - What proportion of trade dollars offered on ebay are counterfeit?
Much more than 1/2 I'd say.

What research paper? Where is it published?
It's not officially published yet anywhere except for Microsoft Word, but I have been thinking about trying to get it published in the RCMR or The Numismatist, but it may be too long for their liking.
Without actually tallying anything, I'd say 5% would be fair.
I check the T$ eBay listings multiple times a day.
I agree, and I do the same...![;) ;)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
