Jefferson Nickel Variety of the Week - 1945-D/D DDO FS-101
Jefferson Nickel Variety of the Week - 1945-D/D DDO FS-101
Well, well, lookie who has resurfaced! I've been poking around with a new endeavor, but have never given up on my Jefferson Nickel variety hunting!
I posted a while back on this particular variety. We all know there are 2 different reverses, which are 2 different RPMs, RPM-005 and RPM-020. There are also die pairings with these RPMs that do not have the DDO Obverse. This is why I like this particular date with its variety of varieties.
Here is the update on this one. I have found several examples of this variety over the years. I have been looking for this one prior to its coveted listing in Cherry Pickers Guide. All these years I have only found 1 FS-101 with RPM-005 until just recently. I now have 2 examples. I was curious for those who own one of these 1945-D/D FS-101s, is your example RPM-005 (below) or RPM-020? With my experience with this particular variety, I'm thinking RPM-005 is the tougher one!

If I remember correctly, some refer to this as the "Monticello Lightening Bolt" die crack variety.

"Monticello Lightening Bolt" variety for the 1945-D! This just adds to the list of great varieties for this date! Don't forget about the RPM-014, which is FS-501.
Nice coin and nice pic.
Please keep posting.
Great picture.... and, since it is snowing here, and MINUS TWO DEGREES, I will have a chance to check my war nickels to see if, by some random stroke of luck, I have one just sitting in my accumulation. Thanks for adding to my activity list for the day. Cheers, RickO
Don't forget about the DDO and the killer steps for this example!
I have a 44-D/D that looks very similar at the mintmark
