@cladking The original photos were taken with one of my early attempts at axial lighting and I had a tissue over the light source. It showed the surfaces pretty well but not so much the luster. It is a very pleasing satin luster, might be what pushed it to the + grade.
Superb coin... that tru view is amazing. I'll be the first to honestly say I don't have respect for this series, but that is a looker in that condition.
Regarding axial, in my experience, you should save it for proofs (not Cameos) and BS toners (but still I prefer regular 10 and 2 lighting for BS toners).
But the lighting on that image is uh... not the greatest. I mean, entire half of the right side of the reverse is way too dark? I'd ask Phil if other images are available.

That's close to what I figured it looked like but I was afraid the luster might not be good.
Awesome coin! I believe I've seen only one better.
All I can say is WOW!!!!!!
This is a beautiful looking Ike.

In my opinion it is very deserving of the grade.

This appears to be struck from brand new dies by the way 15 or fewer strikes.

OK, now I see why you sent it in. The obverse is especially stunning.

i think it shows how blazing the luster must be.
that's a really nice ike. i just saw this thread and read through the first time...it's funny how the tide changes once the grade is in.
anyway, my first thought was "wow" because usually these are nicked all over the place.
Great coin!
I would not send it in ...and I would not crack it out. Good grade.
That's quite a coin and looks every bit the 68 in the trueview. Congrats & thanks for sharing.
I would not have sent it in based on your first pic but you obviously saw the potential.
Congrats!

Thanks but no longer mine. I sold it at GC a while back.
I hope the new(ish) owner can get it into a 69 holder. I tried once and didn't make it.
