Grading questions???? Mantles
Ok, I have a couple of 61 Mantles I am going to sub. The first one is decently centered and probably in the 4/5 range. problem is that it looks like someone started to draw a moustache on the Mick and then tried to erase it. you can see the eraser mark on the upper lip across the face. I did sub this probably 15+ years ago and it came back as "altered". Will it still come back the same or could it just come back with a grade and MK? The second Mantle is very, very sharp. Maybe a touch under 16x magnification to one corner. I figure it is a shoe in for an 8+ and most likely a 9. BUT, it is oc, no getting around that part. So, better to request no qualifier or just let it ride and see if it gets the 9oc? I guess I'm asking if there would be a shot at a straight 8 with it being oc? Thanks for the help, as always

Post some picts if you can. I always request no qualifiers but given it is a Mantle I would have to see the card first before making the decision. My guess is the other Mantle will come back altered as well.
Obviously you can tell which is which, lol. Sorry about the scans, my scanner is utter crap!
Pretty sure they will deem it altered.
First one will come back altered, which you can still have slabbed AUTHENTIC (I think), second one is probably a bit too off center to earn an 8 without a qualifier.
An amateur guess

Authentic Altered (must note that Authentic is acceptable on the sub form) & take the OC (no shot at an 8)
The o/c is a razor of a Mantle. Wouldn't it be sweet if you could magically swap the centering of those two...
After seeing the Mantle that is OC I would submit and take the OC qualifier.
Altered on the first one. On the second card, with the centering, if you request no qualifiers I think the best it will grade is a 4 or 5. It is too far OC for any higher grade.

I would be happy with authentic on the one and very happy with a 9oc on the other. If only it was centered!
10 if centered. Image is amazing for that issue. I bet you will do very well with a 8-9oc with it. Very nice card even OC you could get close to 1000.00 for it in a 9oc I think and an 8oc Id still ask more than average like 675-750
OC all the way. PSA will never in a million years give that a straight 8.
Looking at straight 5-6
Go for the OCs ask for a qual get the 9oc!! You should ask 1000.00 for it in that grade.
Well, I hope it comes back as 9oc or I will probably have to crack it and resubmit it. The last 9oc I saw sell on Ebay sold for $710 but I don't think it is as sharp. I see another one with a BIN of $1875 that has a crappy pic but doesn't look as sharp. Can I request a qualifier on the submission form?
yes put a note in the order under the card
Just got the grade on the OC mantle and it came back as an 8oc. Was really hoping for a 9. It's been so long since I had it in my possession, I forgot what it looks like in person!!
A 9OC is pretty tough to obtain because it has to have virtually no other flaws other than the issue with centering. Even the print dots on the front could have held it back, but likely the corners.
You are probably right. While I would have liked the 9, I'm ok with the 8. I think there is always that little part of us that oversells a card in our own minds thinking/hoping it will get the higher grade. This is the first time I have subbed cards in years so with the 6 I had graded, I was only off on one other card and with that, I was thinking/hoping for a 10.
Congrats on the 8 (OC). Would have looked right at home with a 9 (OC). The image quality is outstanding!!
Dang, Thought it was a 9 oc as well. My guess is the slight tilt put it in an 8oc after looking at the scan again. What caught my eye is the image quality which is better than most! Great card and you should do well with it.
I don't think tilt is relevant at all here. It looks like it didn't get the 9OC due to a couple of corner touches on the bottom.
It could be the fish eyes on the card, also.
Don't make my Mickey feel guilty about his fish eyes!! Lol! It could be a combination all things listed above.
