Chop Marks are part of the allure of Trade Dollars; such an interesting history and I had looked around for a nice example for a while. Feel free to guess the grade, it's in a PCGS holder. Thanks, @FadeToBlack for the pictures as always!

AU 58...nice coin and thanks for sharing!
K
NICE TD, Kyle!
This was my first one period:
It took some time, but I have really learned to appreciate the beauty of a chopmarked TD. I actually search for chopped TDs before I look at any others.
Cheers
Bob
I really like yours and would guess it's an XF-45, here's one I bought a while back.
45 Chop nice coin if not a bit dark but that is better than too bright. Love it

I especially like the chop on the rev. Great example, and I guess xf 45.
I like the originality and color. It is very similar to a chopped S/CC that I recently submitted. My guess is XF45

53!
Nice TD...Is that two chops on the knees?? Plus, the under chop looks like a double hit.... 45 I would say.. Cheers, RickO
Thanks everybody. There are some great chopped trades posted in this thread, thanks for sharing! I’ll post the grade after a couple more guesses.
Yeah, looks like there is an overlapping chop mark from what I can tell, and the lower one looks to be double punched.
@Kyle.... Thanks for the feedback....This is my chopped Trade Dollar... Cheers, RickO
That’s a wonderful example @ricko!
45 or 50...looks very similar to my first chopped TD in appearance. The reverse chop is interesting.
You gonna keep going with chopped trades? Fun set to build.
The reverse chop really caught my eye as well.
One chopped trade dollar is enough, for now.
It's a slippery slope, don't ask me how I know...
What kind of discount do the chopped "damaged" coins sell for?
Nice coin! Congrats!
I would not own one, don't care for marks cut into the coin.
Nice coin... I would say 55 Chopped.
Quick question, do you like chopped or non chopped examples for a Type set?

I can understand why some would feel this way, people have different tastes. For me the marks add to the cool factor of the coin. Certifiable history, they took a trip across the ocean in a ship, probably stopping here and there along the way. These coins are world travelers, fulfilling their intended purpose to be used in trade with Chinese merchants.
I would say chopped, it's up to personal preference though.
I can understand that.
Chop marks can add or subtract from the value, it would heavily depend on the coin, and I am no expert on the subject.
I love XF45 Trade Dollars

Totally agree. XF45 is a nice price point with still significant meat on the bone for this series.
forumflation!
I think I sold this one I don't remember.
Here we have a chop marker in training.
Hoard the keys.
That is an insane group Dan

I don't like the way that I've suddenly become very interested in something that previously meant nothing to me!
Smitten with DBLCs.
Wow... 45? My eyes and this phone are deceiving me.....

Don’t look at detail remaining, look at original mint surface remaining and net it a bit for being dark.

This trade dollar set started with one chop mark trade dollar bought for my type set

Certainly cool, but I just haven't warmed up to straight graded coins with chop marks on them.
Very cool though.

Thanks for sharing your set, I enjoyed reading your comments on each coin. That 1876 Obv 2 Rev 2 is beautiful!
DDR has a great group of his chop dupes from his #1 set up at the Legend auction. I believe it closes tomorrow.
Nice coin Kyle!

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Thanks!
This was also one of DDR's old coins.
I can remember when these were avoided as simply damaged coins, but I'm coming around - the history of these makes an example a good addition to a type set IMO. Fair pricing for XF/AU?
Common date high ef-AU should be in 225-275 in a pcgs holder

Yes, that coin was one of mine. It was previously owned by, among other folks, the original founder of the Chopmark Collectors Club.
Like Crypto, I too started by purchasing just one to have an example. I thought it was really cool. Then another, and another...

The gateway coin. That is why I'm still balking. I've seen this act before : )

As a kid I remember these being sold for $16 each in Coin World ads....they were considered damaged culls.
