1840 PCGS AU $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle "Broad-Mill" Variety FSH

$HOLD Shipped. A coin with nice AU details. It has been cleaned but shows rather attractive color. This coin is the broad-mill variety, which has a broader rim than the typical half eagle. Within 1840, when the broad and narrow (normal) mill varieties were minted, the broad mill is the rarer one.

This coin recently sold on eBay for $710 with three bidders above the $680 shipped price. The winner backed out, but I'm done listing on eBay for the year, so rather than wait until January to put it back up for auction, I'm offering the coin here with a fixed price. Since I don't have to pay eBay fees here, I've lowered the original sale price based on the eBay fees I would have paid.
