1982 small date copper alloy penny

I believe that I found a 1982 copper small date penny. I brought it to a rare coin shop and he had no idea what I was talking about. I'm I chasing my tail or is there something on the end of my line? Any advice for an absolute beginner with coin collecting an green as can be. Thank u

    Welcome.

Being as your so new to the hobby, what path lead you to even knowing about such a coin? Alloy changes are something the general public is not even aware of?
A majotity of people today are not even aware that coins before 1964 were made of silver. So awareness of alloy changes in 1982 is even less so.

@n82017 .... Welcome aboard.... I suggest you either check specific gravity or have an XRF test performed.... Also, you could post a picture and tell us what leads you to believe you have it is a copper coin. Cheers, RickO
